I recently lost my female Rods onyx, raised the pair from 3/8ths" over not sure maybe 8 yrs, not sure what to do. Not sure where to find another. I thinks rods are part c quest. Do I do a female or get male not sure what the tempermanent of male. I nice Picasso may fill void or do I start over with new juv pair.

There are still a few hatcheries that are breeding c-quest Onyx clowns. You should keep your male and get him a juvenile clown. Eventually the male will transition into a female.

I am not sure that all the Onyx lines are really different. C-Quest was the original line and, Rod got his from C-Quest. IMO, Bali Aquatic likely start his Onyx from C-Quest also.
Some breeder may add a dark color WC Onyx here and there.
When I breed clowns, I try to diversify their gene pool a little and try not to inbreed them. If you want to breed your clowns sometime, I would get some clowns from different stock. If not any clown you like will do just fine.

I think the pair were about 8 yrs old so not sure what the lifespan is especially if male transition, lol, morphs to female. They were a spawning pair for years and never tried to raise fry. Did that 20 yrs ago, a lot of work. What do you think a male would do if intro a juv pair?

If you put a Juvi pair with the male, the male will change to female and the Juvi will duke it out to see how get to breed. You need plenty of hiding space and room for the loosing clown to get away from the winner or he will be kill. The male just ignore them both until there is a winner.
