Well, I just woke up to the smell of death. I look over toward my tank and see a lot of white. Just about all of my SPS corals are now bare skeletons. My clam and LPS corals are stressed beyond safety. I am not sure about the other corals. Fish are fine. I did about 50 tests to find the problem but could find nothing out of wack. So i started checking my power heads, and guess what. One of my maxi jets that is in the back of my tank is completely rusted out. So i figure that the rust has killed off the majority of my tank. (Lost Marbles had a similar experiance) I am most ****ed that I lost my 3 year old montipora digi colony. It was bright orange, and when i measured it this morning it was about 9 inches by 7 inches.
My question is should i just do a lot of water changes and then leave the tank alone for about a month?
edit: If the majority of stuff is gone when the lights go on, I think that I am going to do major changes. I am going to remove the majority of my rock and just have two seperate islands that are a little bit bigger than a basket ball. Then i am going to only have about 4 or 5 sps that i want to grow (manly stags).
