Lots of phytoplankton in skimmer lately

For some reason I am seeing a lot of bright green phytoplankton in my skimmer cup lately. Has anyone went through this stage in their reef tank? Do you think this is a good or bad sign? I have had a reef tank for almost three years not and during the last few weeks is the first I have ever seen this happening.
