Loud return pump

I just bought a Quiet One Pump that does around 2100 gph for my 75 gallon up and coming SH tank....I filled the tank with water to leek check it and I also turned on the pump to see how quiet it would be. Well...there's no leeks but the pump is so loud. I have rubber on the bottom of the pump to try and make it less noisey but its not working. Its in my living room and is way to loud to have it running so my question being is there anything else I could do to make it less noisey or what would be a good pump that would also do 2100 gph but be quiet. The pump is running the return lines and the chiller and there doesnt seem to be to much flow just noise!

I use the basic pumps that you can buy for any pond. They run very quickly and smoothly and they are cheap -.^.

The biggest problem for noise I find is not from the pump, but from the water echoing in the piping. I would suggest narrowing your piping using valves to help reducing the echo sounds from the water.

Narrowing pipe on a return pump is going to significantly deacrease the amount of flow the pump will put out, and is likely to generate more heat. IMO that is not a good idea.

The Quiet Ones or Loud as Hell ones as I like to call them do not live up to there name. They are loud. The noise will decrease over the first five days as the pump breaks in, but never enough for me to actually use one on my systems.

If the pump is external you can try putting a rubber mouse pad under the pump and building a little "bow" with the foam wall insulation.

If it is internal you can stll use a rubber mouse pad, or filter floss to help limit the vibration.

I prefer to use the bran eheim now since I am a noise freak and can not justify the expense of a red dragon.

When I switched to an ehiem on my bedroom tank it actually freaked me out and woke me up at night because the tank was silent. I was used to some noise and would think the power had turned off. After years of sleeping with the old pump the eheim took an adjustment period for me.

If you didn't need so much gph you could use a maxijet 1200 to deliever about 300 gph at 5' of head, they are also silent IME.

Thanks for the comments! I will look into getting one of those pumps... I do have a chiller so I may also see if adding another ball valve will help
