So I temporarily had a 34g Rubbermaid Roughneck garbage can for saltwater mixing in our pre-remodel dining room. It tipped over SOMEHOW, and totally soaked powerstrip...it was arcing crazy! I got it unplugged from wall, while telling my wife to kick me if it looks like I'm getting electrocuted. The can was directly above furnace so that's not running and it's a nice balmy 54 in the house now. Both aquariums are down to 76. Calling repairman!
 
Ya thx guys! HVAC dude gonna be here within the hour! LOL, the wife says, "Do you think we can do our mixing in the basement now?" I say "YES!"
 
Ugh... how did it tip over? How full was it?
I mix in the basement and have to carry water up a flight of stairs.
Not fun. But I bought some of the 9G barrels with locking lids from needabarrel. I bought them because I was always afraid that I'd take a dump on the stairs while carrying a bucket. The locking barrels are great. The worst thing that can happen now is that the 70lbs of water will just crash through the drywall, hopefully without hitting me as a I tumble down the stairs.
 
I have no idea how it tipped over. I had just gotten to a bud's house dwn the street when wifey called me and yelled "Get home NOW!" I was like, hmmm, not a normal thing lol. She was upstrs in laundry room and kids all in bed, dogs were asleep. Damn gremlins!!!
 
oh man.....Steve is right...it comes in THREES. Everybody stay on their toes today!!!!

i'm taking it as a good sign that you were electricuted since you are still posting...glad you are okay...
 
OMG, nothing like the old electrical fire to get the adrenaline going.

Call this guy @ 1-800-fire marshall bill,he would no what to do and most likely who tipped it over on you.

Thx folks...already moved the set up into basement. Dumb question maybe, but if the power strip has a breaker, does that cover me, or should I just redo a cpl of the outlets with gfi's?
 
The circuit breaker may stop the strip from arcing but it still has a cord coming into it that is powered. Receptacles with GFI's that are located a couple of feet above the ground would be the safest thing to have.

Thx Belgium..im on it! I will replace aquarium outlets with gfi's (like they should have been 6 months ago when I first started all this), but theoutlets in basement are all in ceiling so a breakered strip should be ok for now eh?
 
I had water get on a powerstrip one time. Small pretty blue flames were enough to understand what these guys are talking about, ALWAYS HAVE YOUR FISH ELECTICAL ITEMS PLUGED INTO A GFI.
 
I Have had the pig style gfi cord and the starit plug in style . both are not that great. I had both types fail. Homedepot has the outlet gfi for less than ten bucks and it only take 5 min to put one in a outlet.

homedepot gfi....reefer's best friend....actually....BLONDE'S best friend. they are everywhere in my house.
