low heat transfer pumps

well with my apt allways being hot and me getting MH .. im building a new sump and looking for a little more flow through the sump ... 500-600 will be good.....


so i was thinking of a t2 OR t3 ... is there anything elese with low heat transfer so i can try to avoid getting a chiller for my tank ...

ill be adding more fans to the sump and the top to cool the tank off

Hi,

If you are considering the Velocity T series pumps T1-4, they transfer tons of heat to the tank. I have a small Panworld external pump (~480GPH) that runs cool and is pretty quiet (I can hear it but it's not bad)

Velocity pumps are about the worst external you can get for heat transfer since they are water cooled. Get an air cooled pump instead.

I run two T4 pumps on a ~150 total gallons. (2) 150W halides 3 inches from the water and a handfull of other PH pumps and an OR3700 NW.

With (4) small PC case fans I can keep the tank at 82 with evaporative cooling. Not bad at all. The T4 pumps do add heat, but it is manageable.

But dead silent You have to touch them to determine if they are running.

Sadly, my (4) muffin fans are louder than that T4 pumps...

... but still T4 and (4) muffin fans are quieter than competing pumps with no muffin fans

Yes, but he asked for low heat transfer, not quiet. There is a trade off. Air cooled pumps are cooler, water cooled are quieter.

If you are only looking for 500-600 GPH then a Eheim 1262 should take care of your problem it does 900+ gph i believe, and I'm figuring that at 3 or 4 feet of head loss it could put you at where you want to be, you can also look into the OceanRunners 2500 and 3500. I have not heard the OR pumps, but everyone says they are dead silent. I have heard the Eheims and I know they are dead silent. Neither of these pumps will add too much heat to your water.

I switched from 2 Little Giants, an MD-3 for skimmer and a MD-4 for sump/chiller ... to two comparable flow rated Blueline (Pan World) and the noise level dropped signifigantly and the Chiller runs about 12 minutes less per cycle. Actually, the main pump is stronger than the LG it replaced while the skimmer pump is about the same. Don't know how well these pumps will hold up but they are quiet and much coller running than the Little Giants. In fact, you can touch the housings and they are just lukewarm to the touch. You couldnt keep your hand on the LG housings for any amount of time without getting a burn.

eheim 1260, rated at 600+ gph but will flow more since we run 60hz in the US. Extremely low heat, quiet, and super reliable. Can be run external = how i have it, or in sump.
