LPS and Leathers

I know that so many things in this wonderful hobby are not exact, but i was wondering if there is a list of leather corals to stay away from when you also have LPS corals.

A LFS near me has a really good deal on a green toadstool leather coral I really like, but I already have one and plan to keep many more LPS in the future. All that being said, I'm pretty sure that the toadstool is from the genus Sarcophyton and www.asira.org says to stay clear of these. Is this true?

Specifically, I want to be able to keep Frogspawn, a Torch coral, a Favia or some sort of moon coral, and my current Turbinaria "Pagoda" in the future. Do you know of any leathers that don't affect these types?

i have a green polyp toadstool (sarcophyton) with LPS. there are no problems. or at least... i dont think there have been.

I have a few leathers in my tank with other LPS and have had no issues(also so far...). You run a greater risk of problems with Leathers and SPS corals. My leather when fully expanded lays within 1" of some hammers and another frogspawn and they have been civil to each other so far. The leather hit a Monti cap a few times and the result wasnt good on the cap and I had to move it....

Thank you so much for the quick replies!

Still, has anyone put together a list of Leather species that are definitely a no-no with stony corals? If not the LPS variety, what about SPS. If my tank is looking really good farther in the future I might try my hand at some Montipora, either the plating or digitata variety.

I'm sure this has already been well documented, maybe I should have posted in the newb forum.

Can someone link me a good web page about various coral compatibilities?

Well I have all the corals you plan on having and have a large blushing leather, many smaller toadstools, a yellow figi, kenya trees, and a cabbage leather. Also have several short tentacle plates, favias, lobos, etc. There is a skimmer and I do weekly water changes but don't run carbon. My reading indicates sinularias tend to be the most toxic to lps. Not sure if it's true as I haven't added any of that type yet.

This is a terrible pic from a couple months ago so some of the leathers aren't in it but you can see the large blushing to the middle right and the smaller toadstools to the left of it.

Taqpol, what are you doing in this forum! :D

Although I don't know of a specific list, I know my yellow and green sinularias are particularly nasty (in my 55ga). Granted, they were HUGE (like, football sized) and managed to kill a hammer in a ridiculously short period of time that thrived in my 20ga for about 6months. I got the bright idea to move it into the "big" tank, where it met it's doom.

You should be fine, though, in your 20ga. I have three frags from my yellow leather in mine and so far, so good. With the amount of water changes you'll do they shouldn't bother anything. I'm actually notorious for skipping a water change here and there and have seen no ill-affects from leathers vs lps.

Just my thoughts and experiences! See you in the nano forum! (where are those pics!)

I should have some updated pics (and potentially new corals, hopefully a frogspawn and a torch) by this coming weekend when my girlfriend lets me "borrow" my camera back.
