OK its that time again just when everything is going good some fish desides to start eating my lps's. I had some vary flesh acans that are now down next to nothing some blastos missing flesh,
I feed the fish every day they act like there starving.I have to stay right there and defend the sun coral like a hockey goalie on a power play when I feed it..here's my fish list any guesses,
1 powder blue tang
1 sailfin tang
1Purpleback Pseudochromis
1 large clarkie
2 cardinals
2 cromis
my 1/2 eaten starfish
1 cleaner wrasse
1 scooter blenny.
that's it. a cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp
I think there's a rouge crab in there ..don't know what kind..
any thoughts .as I start my surveillance.

sailfin tang thats the problem because u didnt have any problems before and now u do its the problem pull him out and it will get better. watch and see

I dont think it was the tang!
I keep an eye on the crabs! They can walk acrossed some LPS and poke holes in the flesh and cause an infection!
I would look for something not on your list.

Ive seen my morpho bite trumpets and xenia but never a sailfin. maybe the cleaner wrasse, mine went after clams after being safe for over a year.

the cleaner wrasse is the newent addition but hes so small and the acans were a good 3 " round I've been sitting there watching so far not much happening the sail fin took a swipe at the clam and an just 1 nibble swipe at an acan not much of an assult.. I'll keep watching..

My yellow tang went after a clam that Zach had me watch for him. Needless to say, the clam didn't last more than 2 days. Can't tell if the clam was on the way out, or the tang did him in.

My bet is the powder blue. If I don't keep lettuce on the clip, my powder blue looks for other things to sample. The good news is, if my Kenya tree gets out of control, I just have to stop giving the tank greens, the PB does the rest.

I have had acan eating peppermint shrimp. I personally saw them picking at my acans and remove alot of flesh. I removed the shrimp and the acans healed up. Theres always a rogue of everything.

my peppermint shrimp torn my acan to pieces. I caught him one morning when i was topping off my tank. Needless to say i dont have any more peppermint shrimp.

Also read stories on RC with the Peppermint Shrimp.
But some might not have been actual Peppermint's.

I would agree many stores mistakingly sell camels as peppermints. I have a yellow tang, cleaner and peppermint shrimp, none eat acans but if there is food they will snatch it from the polyp. I had a scribbled rabbit that developed a taste for acans after I started target feeding.

I used to target feed. but have stopped a while ago . it was too hard to stop them from picking them clean. and I didn't want to reinforce that behavior. but I still have to do the sun coral. looks like a good excuse for a new tank .hehehe.. :)
p.s. I got the peppermints from salty critter. I would hope they know the differance.
