LPS Friendly Large Angels

Currently have an adult BlueLine and adult Emperor. Intend on adding a Regal Angel. Would a BlueFace work? I.e. minimal aggro and as reef friendly as my other Angels. Cheers. :)

If your blueline and emporer do not eat LPS, you are already super lucky. The regal should be ok. My blueface and most that I have seen really like acans. My never touched frogspawn, and only occationally nipped at candy cane corals. I have since removed all LPS because my Majestic really likes them.

Blue Face have one of the worst reputations. Majestics have better reputations, but there are always exceptions to both.

Never really been a fan of the Majestic. Any other ideas? Guess I could fork out for a Passer or Goldflake as they are next on my list.

I had a blueface in my 300 gallon for 2 years and never touched anything then one day decided he liked the taste of coral and in a 2 day period while I was out of town wiped out 4 large brains and damaged a couple of others so I had to remove him. I really hated that because it was a great looking fish.

What about a flag fin angel? Same family as the Goldflake for less than a 1/4 the cost. One guy on RC has a group of flag fins in his tank which I think is awesome.

The Genicanthus are the only truly reef-safe angels (but you probably already know that). Have you considered one of them? I like the swallowtail quite a bit.

Since the Genicanthus are the only really reef-safe angels, have you considered them? The swallowtail is a pretty nice looking fish.

First, define "reef safe".

I know of several accounts of Genicanthus sepcies picking at coral, just as much as other genus would. It's a common hobby notion that they're less apt to pick at coral based on the fact that they mainly feed out of the water column compared to most angels that pick at rocks for food.

Hmmm, Flagfin never really turned me on either.

That's cool.......have you seen one in person? They are quite striking with the blue lips on the bright yellow body. Great personality too.

Does the goldflake turn you on 6 times as much?;)

I'd take a nice trio of them over one goldflake & still have another couple of hundered to spend on something else...............just sayin.

I have seen lots of tangs nip at coral also. Nipping does mean a fish is not reef safe. You are right , the term reef safe is subjective.
