Hi,

I just picked up this coral at an LFS yesterday. Someone turned in their tank to the LFS and the junior weekend worker wasn't 100% sure what it was.

I'm assuming it's a Euphyllia, but can any of you tell from this photo if it's a cristata or glabrescens or maybe something entirely different?

Thanks for the tip on the article AlSimmons.

I took a look at the articles and a closer look at the coral and I now think it's lacking the "large blade-like septal ridges" that appear to be the signature of the Euphyllia cristata.

Given the owner had just recently turned this coral in to the LFS, it's possible it's been a bit neglected. If that is the case, I may just need to give it some time and see if it changes as it (hopefully) recovers.

Unfortunately half of this coral has taken a turn for the worse and this is new territory for me.

I've attached new images here, but half of this coral has turned dark colored and is permanently receded.

Anybody have any experiences on what I should do next?

My first question is at what point to I call it quits on the second head?

And then, when I've given up on this coming back, what do I do at that point? Do I try to remove all of the flesh from that head, leaving the calcified stony body empty and intact? Or do I take a bone cutter and go down and cut the entire branch off just above the "Y" (like I was creating a new frag)?

At this point I'm inclined to not rush anything and give it a few more days to a week to see if it will bounce back. But let me know if you have any experiences from which I can draw.
