LPS Keepers - Diseases and Cures

I hope there are others interested in this topic more than just me. I keep Acans and there seems to be a lot on dipping your coral or post fragging how to care and avoid disease with your Acans.

I dip in Revive every time I purchase a new frag/colony and so far so good. When I frag, I dip in a lugol's solution to help prevent disease. So far, two very common practices (though some prefer CoralX to Revive).

What do you do for tissue necrosis or when you see infection in the skeleton when you frag? I have heard some say treat with Melafix and a lot of what I read on the web sounds like Melafix isn't that effective.

Other signs of disease to watch out for?

Appreciate everyone's input.

I'm looking but still learning... I'm about to go research your dips just for the information. We usually just acclimate and put them in, we now have a scare with a white cottony growth on my beloved torch coral that has been in the tank for months so I'm rabid for info.

I looked at the photographs you posted of your torch and it appears to me that you have a sponge growing on your torch. While they are a sign of health in your system, sometimes they just seem to grow in the wrong place and in your case it can be an irritant to your torch. I would recommend removing the torch from the tank, remove the sponge, dip in an iodine dip and put it back in the DT - typically in a dimmer part of your system to recover. I hope that helps.
