I have been to hobby for 4 1/2 years and always had LPS and have become intrested in changing to a SPS reef. Do you have to have a calcium reactor or can you go on with the way you always have run the original tank.
I have 120 gallon with a refugium, protein skimmer. I know that I will need to change the lighting and maybe add a chiller or not, but I would love to here different opions.

I do not believe you have to have a calcium reactor, but it would make your maintenance easier. I personally use Randy's 2 part and my calcium is buffed up by Kents turbo calcium. Randy made a great calculator that really simplifies things http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chemcalc.html. Since I have switched to reef crystals I haven't had to do anything but my weekly water change. This may change as I get into more advanced sps. Good luck and the advice others will chime in with is great.

Well, you may not need a calcium reactor but you will probably need to supplement Ca, Alk and Mg somehow. I dose 2 part solution. How much you will need really depends on how many sps/lps you have and how fast they are absorbing/growing. Are you dosing now? LPS would probably need as well.
