LR Pillars

What are you guys using to build LR pillars? What kind of rods work best if I want to drill the LR? I am not willing to just stack LR in pillars this time because my eel likes to knock them down.

The fiberglass rods used for dome tent poles and the like work well, and are strong. Just cut the metal couplings off the ends before using them.

Fiberglass driveway markers work well, They are pretty cheap also. Cut them to the length you need, drill a hole in the rock and connect them.

you can order acrylic rods off the internet. Another way (cheaper way) would be to buy plastic coat hangers and cut them to the appropriate size, but this may limit your ability to stack the rocks vertically beacuase of the weight distribution.

What kind of drill bit do you use to drill the rock?? and how do you keep the fiberclass rod stable in the tank?

plastic coat hangers have worked well for me and there cheap I have been useing these for almost 2yrs with no problems.I dont drill all the way through the rocks eather if you dont it gives you more options of how you want to stack the rocks I also make rock lifts from the coat hangers the same way drill as many hole as it takse to keep the rocks stable then cut to equil length.

I use plastic coat hanger rods cut into sections I dont drill the rock all the way through so I have more options when stacking the rocks I make my rock lifts the same way. I have been doing this for 2 yrs. with no prob. some people will try to say they will leach po4 whitch is true to some extent but one cube of frozen food has 10 times more phos. than coat hangers will eaver leach out
