LR question

can you break big peices of LR into smaller peices... because my LFS only hase huge chunks that wont fit into smaller tanks and they also said you cant break it up?.... i was just wondering couldent i make a salt water bath in a small tub and break it into peices with a chisle and hammer then transfer the small shards to the tank??

Sure you can. The inside of the rock that is now exposed to the outside will lose the denitrifying ability because it's exposed to Oxygen, but the actual inside of the rock will be fine.

of course you can...i dont know why the lfs would say you cant...proly to get you to buy a bigger tank or soemthing from them lol.

hahaha yeah.... oh yeah and one other thing should i cycle with or w/o lights ??? i keep getting so many diffrent answers :s

and you'll KEEP getting dif. answers lol. Many say no, but i have before...just not w/many hours/strong lights.

I'm kinda cycling my 40 right now. I only added about 20 lbs of completely cured rock so i'm still waiting to get more rock before i start the thing really, but one of the rocks came w/about 30 brown polyps and one had 2 brown shrooms, so i've been running the lights for about 7 hours a day. However the rock was fully cured, so theres no die off to help give nitrates and stuff to algae to feed off of, so the lights not really doing anything besides help out the corals.
