LTB: GE 6500K t5ho 48" bulbs

Thanks Roger, gonna pair them up with blue led's to bring the kelvin back up to 10-12k, where did you order from? Reefgeek?

Sweet, gonna go with 2 and have both come on for 6-8hrs during the day. For now, just stick with one reefbrite XHO, if I like the colors/coral growth I'll consider adding more actinic LED's. If I don't like the colors/coral growth then I'll just go back to my original configuration.

That seems like a lot. U have a 2 bulb over the frag tank correct?

They only recommend 1 6500 in an 8 bulb setup. And 2 purple plus to wash out the yellow look. If u really want to do the 6500 I would recomend the 6500, a purple plus, then the LEDs. If u have 4 bulbs then the 6500, 2 purple plus and a blue plus and the LEDs

jMO good luck

The 6500K is for my display. I have 8 bulbs on my display now, planning on doing from back to front

blue +
6500k or 10/12K daylight
blue +
6500k
reefbrite xho
UV
coral plus or 10/12K daylight
blue +
UV

Most of my SPS are in the back while most of my LPS are in the front on the sand so I'm thinking of giving my SPS more white light and my LPS more blue light. If I don't like the look I'll swap one of the 6500ks with a coral plus or 10/12K daylight bulbe.

In my frag tank I have the following

coral +
actinic LED
blue +

and thinking of changing it to

Coral +
actinic LED
UV

I also plan on picking up a 29g tank to replace my frag tank for the additional depth as soon as they go for the $1/g sale :D

Lol, so true, I already have the frag tank it's just cooking live rock now, it's a half 90g, 48x18x12. Also, adding the extra height to put a powerhead on the bottom, I hate the way detritus builds up in one corner. Siphoning it out is a pain with the racks in there.

Pedro i have ran several different T5 bulb combos over the years. The 6500k are great for growth in SPS and LPS but due to the increased par they put out some softies don't do so well under them. They are also very yellow but with your other bulbs you should be able to balance it out. You also have to be careful to make sure your keeping a low nutrient system because algae and cyano can be more of an issue with these bulbs. If you really want to try these out since you have a mixed reef and not SPS only I would go with only 1 6500k with the following bulb combo: 3 AT I blue plus, 2 ATI aqua blue special, 2 KZ Figi purple, and 1 GE 6500k. If this were a SPS only tank or a frag tank i would say to go with 2 or 3. Whatever you decide on it would be cool to start a thread showing the results and changes you see.

when you say UV is that the brand or do they sell a uv t5 bulb I`m new to the t5`s , and where did you get the ge 6500k and do you like the look of the light and growth of corals. thanks Pedro

Haven't tried the 6500k bulbs yet, but once again thinking of going a different route Lol. I believe Rogergolf66 has 1 bulb in his frag tank, hopefully he can comment on the way the tank looks. Last I recall installman tested the color temperature of his tank with his camera and it was 9000k, which is a bit yellow white, but he didn't have any blue t5s or blue LEDs on.

When I say UV I mean the ati actinic bulb.

Hey Pedro - they're REAL yellow. I had a 6k Giesemann Midday, paired with blue pluses. Took it out after a week. If you want whiter colors, try the UVL Aquasun, it's a 10k.

You're welcome to have my 6k Midday if you want to try it out.
