Lukinrats 75 gallon tank thread!!!

I have had a 6x54watt catalina fixture for a awhile and i wanted to get slr's but 6 reflectors won't fit on my 13inch wide 55gallon so i will probably do 5 slr's and have one reflector with 2 bulbs under it. The thing i don't like about the catalina reflector's is that they hardly cover the whole bulb so a good bit of light is lost.

Ya, I think you would be better off with 3 Icecap SLRs, with 2 bulbs in each... I can't explain why this works, but it does... Good luck

Nathan, you have lots of pretty corals. Let me ask you a couple of questions about your photography, because I know you want to get the best pictures you can:

Are you shooting them where each frag fills the LCD screen/viewfinder?
Are you cropping them down to where we only see the frag in a full frame?
Are you doing any post processing, or merely resizing the images?

DISCLAIMER: reply made by iPhone, so not resposible formistakes

Yes, I try to get as close as I can... They usually fill the LCD... Since they r frags, there is not much elseto see

I do not crop at all... This last time was the only set that I edited at all... Just autosharpen and then a bit of saturation and hue adjust

That's it!

Gee that sure is nice of u, but I hope u don't consider my pictures skilled... That is setting the bar pretty low... I stink!!!

I just figured out the macro button on my camera, and you can adjust sharpness and color(shading) in ifran view.

I think your pictures are still better then mine... but then you might just have better corals then me :)

Well, I appreciate that... I am hoping that I can do a lot better once I get my Canon for Xmas

I checked out your thread, and I really love the furniture that you built for your tank... It looks soooo good

thanks, I really like my stand/canopy also.....

I took your advice and was messing around with my camera. I found the white adjustment and toned it down a little. The pictures are looking alot better. I dont have the blinding white spots anymore.

here is an example and a new frag i picked up this weekend, but you can see white not just a huge reflection

I got my new Canon, and so far I am really happy with it... It is the 450d XSI, and it came with the 18-55 mm lens, which is not all that great, but I guess I am going to live with it for now... I finally made myself sorta happy last night after days and days of snapping and then tossing pictures... These are from last night, and hopefully I can get used the camera pretty soon, and get some better looking ones

Need an ID on a couple of things, if anyone has time... I got this Hammer Coral, and it has some things on it that I do not know... I want to make sure that whatever they are, they will not cause any problems... BTW, this is hammer coral right? I thought it was frog spawn when I bought it... Also, it is all deflated because it just came out of Revive

Here is the other...This is some sort of snail that I found in my fuge today... Not sure if it is a snail or a chiton, or what... It's very long, and has some long tentacles... It seems to like doing flips, since it slithers for a while, then flips, then does it all over again

That first coral looks like a Frogspawn to me, rather than a hammer.

Frogspawn: http://www.melevsreef.com/id/frogspawn.html
Hammer: http://www.melevsreef.com/id/hammercoral.html
Branching Hammer: http://www.melevsreef.com/id/branching_hammer.html
Octopus: http://www.melevsreef.com/id/octopus_coral.html

And the slug is a Stomatella. Reef safe.
http://www.melevsreef.com/id/stomatella.html

You can peruse the ID page on my site for lots of stuff: www.melevsreef.com/id/

Thanks Marc... As I said, I figured it to be Frogspawn, and that is what I wanted... I told the LFS owner that I wanted the Frogspawn in the tank, along with the twin spotted wrasse... He said, "That's a hammer coral, is that what you want?"
I went ahead and got it, even though it did not look very good... I think it will turn out to be nice though

I appreciate the ID's!
