Lumanarc reflector

Better yet any experiences with them or any other reflectors besides spiders which I've used multiple times and still do.

COnsidering a set over my 200 to minimize lost par and with a pair of mounted fans perhaps i can give my chiller a lil break once in a while.

Thx for your experiences and recomendations.

Not really any help, but I just ordered mine from aquarium specialty. As you said, these seem to maximize par by all accounts. I am hoping that between this, the IceCap ballast, and the XM 10k DE bulb I can maximize par/effeciency and stick to a single 250 + t5 supplements (2x24 and 2x39 under SLR reflectors) on my yet to be setup 92g.

I ended up with the Stealth mini DE.

Many I saw a before and after tank with these reflectors same bulbs and honesty there was not much of a difference visually, however, the light had a more even spread and the fauna did seem to do better after it adapted.
The true lumenarc are on sale at reefexotics, they have pretty good prices and I think they are on special now.

Hey Roger my sentiments exactly, but the rave about this reflectors makes me wonder.

I'm i missing something LOL.
I've never used anything else but spiders but would like to consider this reflectors.

Will see what kind of response i get out of the sps forum.

I don't want to nuke my tank if i do end up with this reflectors.

In my humble experience, the Lumen Arcs DO spread the light of a single bulb much better than the PFO spiders.

Over my 3x3ft tanks, that;s what i use and they come close to spreading the lights to the edges. The spider wouldnt even come close to lighting the edges of this tank.

SInce they have a much larger surface area, that's what they do, spread the light better and one thing i have also experinced is they dissipate the heat much better making cooling easier.

Hope this helps, JOHNNY

The only drawback is that they are bulky.

gasman I have them on my tank and would use anything else.

btw Husky_1 the most efficent I think are the galaxy for e ballasts and pfo HQI for HQI ballasts. also the SE run more par then the de because you dont have to use the glass which takes away 20% from what I hear. Been using the lumenarcs with out glass 6" from the water with no problems

hey NYVP,
I agree with the fact that the SE is more efficient because of the glass, but I thought the DE reflectors were far superior to the SE, regaining that effeciency +?

As far as the ballasts go, I guess my research was not thorough enough...

Not saying the icecaps are bad at all, in fact they are up there. they were the first I used and liked them a lot before going up to the galaxy's in the 400w range. Btw as far as efficiency the xm10 se's are by far the best bulb in the 250/w range better then most 400watters. The SE's are better when your going for width. I would use DE's if I had a 18" width maybe even 24 but after that the LumIII's and SE bulbs really kick in till I think 3x3 area

Interesting, maybe i picked the wrong setup then, because I went with the lumIII DE's. I am sure this will work out fine, but I was looking for optimal :(

Dale I wouldn't worry too much. I've heard a ton of people who were in love with the LumIII DEs, because a lot of people believe the DE bulbs to put out more light than SE. You really have to be sure to clean the glass though, because that's where you'll see the reduction of light, like Joe said.

I really want to get some LIIIs for my 48x24x24 , but it's just something else to spend money on...

yup I I've considered for a while but will be left with little space to work on the tank.
As of now dont feel like building some sort of rail with plug and play.

Just the nature of the reflector's anatomy makes me a believer.

Perhaps I can get my hands on the smaller version of any reflector rather than the spider and give them a try.

thx for your help!

thx guys for all the input- any other links??

BTW with this space 17 inches long and 12(1 foot) to the water please recommend the smallest and most efficient reflector.

I know I know asking way too many questions I'm like an old lady set on my ways but certainly believe that I'm missing out on this particular subject plus need to cool my tank somehow so my chiller wont work overtime.

Will be installing a couple more fans in the hood soon, and in the near future some reflectors to achieve the desire goal of less heat and more light.

Here's a pic of my canopy remember space is a must to work in the tank,

Andy yes i run 3x400 29 k.
I just need to take a look and measure. Will b upgrading on my next bulb change and want to get an idea of how much space left below them to work in the tank.

Ill try to swing by

Hey Andy what bulb/ballast combo u are running?
I would hate to have to change ballast and so forth.
Anyways if I do decide to go with this particular reflector, which seems to be the best in the market i would do so during my next bulb change but I'm starting my reseacrh early.
thx for your time.
