i believe its called elk grove glass , if ur goin from 99 on elk grove blvd, you pass Elk Grove Florin, and its on the right hand side, before you cross the rail road tracks. They'll charge you by the dimensions, plus the fee to temper the glass. They had mine done within a couple of days

ANY glass shop can cut and temper you a shield for the LA3 or the Mini, but I wouldn't put them on unless you're using the A.C. option: http://www.pacificgardensupply.com/proddetail.asp?prod=L3&cat=2

Should have went to the WMC. Pacific Garden was there selling all their aquarium line. I got 3 mini A.C. kits w/glass and a spare reflector when they took down their booth. They were floating major discounts for the show attendees as well.

I was not going to use the shield without the holes cut out on top of the reflectors so I am going to cut the two circular holes on top for air vents.

The glass shop you're all referring to is called Moule's, which is where I got my Lumenarc shield.

Anyway, I prefer to use the shield since it's a helluva lot easier to clean than the bulb and reflector. According to PGS, I think the light loss is only 6%, but I've read where Sanjay believed it to be as much as 20%.

I agree with Rich, though, that you'd want the version with the A/C vents if you're going to use a shield.

yea I am definitely going to get a couple of vent holes cut on top, I was thinking of going with the new LumenMAX but dont want to spend anymore more money just on reflectors. plus I think the L3s are much more lighter but the LumenMAX do look pretty clean.

My understanding is that Double ended bulbs need uv shielding, but single ended bulbs don't. Tempered glass is required for uv shielding.

I am looking at getting 2x lumenarc mini reflectors for my 2x 250 watt mh. Does anyone know where I can get them online? Who sells them? What are your experiances with these reflectors?

should the glass shield be tempered or no?

Tempered and non-tempered glass have the same UV-A and UV-B blocking capabilities. Tempered is preferred since it can better handle the high temp and the expanding and contracting with the temp changes.

Just my opinion:

I use a glass shield on my L3 mini. Without any measurement equipement, I can say it definitely does reduce the lights. I don't know by how much - but I wouldn't be surprise if it's more than 10%. As other have mentioned - don't use the shield unless you have the AC option or some way of venting out the heat.

I am thinking about checking to see if I can get low iron glass. I also want it tempered.
