Lunar mode and SPS

First off all, sorry for my english.

I have a led design that imitates the moon fase. 28 days. with different % of light of course.

Is there any study or research on where is a good thing or not for SPS and other reef inhabitants ?

Lunar cycle contributes to the spawning patterns of corals. Acropora corals are tougher to get to spawn because of the "lack" of food (aka live planktons) in our systems.

I used to run moon lights, just for personal viewing. I don't even bother anymore. I find I get better PE with less light at nite, and that is when I feed oyster feast, or other things that sps "should eat". I also get a fair bit of indirect light from my vortech controller boxes, when I last rewired my tank I just didn't bother to hook the moon lights back up.

I wouldnt trade my moonlight for anything! Its the 350ma blue led and it is just such a pleasing color that allows me that much more viewing time not to mention the cool factor of the glow at night. I feel there is no benefit to having one other than personal enjoyment even if it is running a moonphase. Spawning events are so rare that its just not likely youll get that to happen and of course theres the question of whether you actually want it to happen in a closed system. THats no reason not to run them though its just another of the many risks we take in a reef tank.

yeah i had about 100 snails spawn at once..almost killed my tank also..could not see through the water was all milky white
