LUNATIC FRINGE-Duel 500g tanks, 1600g total

WE CAUGHT HIM!!!!

Only took a month...

My little guy played his favorite position, goalie in lacrosse then played middie and scored the winning goal...and when I asked him what the best thing about today was he said catching the paddle fin wrasse...lol

anyway... I tried a TON of things...even the dreaded the hook....I then decided to get a mirror. Since he is so aggressive I figured no one better to fight than himself....I attached it to the inside of the tank but was never quick enough to get him....SO...I put the mirror on the outside of the fish trap....caught him in 5 minutes....

not the best shot but I caught both the Thalassoma lucasanum (some call him the rainbow wrasse) and a damsel....

Added H2O delivery system.... The very first red valve leads to a hose that I use to Top Off or add Saltwater for water change. I added the blue pipe to deliver water to both sumps. The second valve obviously turns it on...the white pipe to the left is a purge valve so I can drain all excess water in the pipes after filling so it does not become stagnate thus having me add it to the tanks the next time I use them.

I put both valves next to each other so I can direct water flow into sumps from one spot.

Had to post this..

I prefer to buy fish local as I want to support the local shops and I like to hand pick my specimens so to speak. One of the popular internet sites had a big sale and they also carried some stuff I cant get locally so I put in my first order.... Below is the conversation that I just had:

Operator: Hello

ME: Yes my order number is xxxxxx

Operator: Ok I have it pulled up can I help you.

ME: Yes, order arrived on time but two fish were DOA in the bags and the third was also DOA but I didn't notice until I took it out of the bag.

Operator: How do you know the fish in the bag are dead?

ME: Ummm....the fact that they were floating upside down and not breathing.

Operator: Did you try to revive them?

ME: Really?

Operator: Yes many times if you acclimate them they come back to life

ME: Ummm....I have been keeping fish for 20 years, I think I know a dead fish when I see it.

Operator: Can you take the fish out of the bag and try and acclimate them for 30 minutes?

ME: The water is cloudy, the fish are bright white and deteriorating and you want my to drip acclimate them?

Operator: Yes, call me back in thirty minutes and let me know what happens

ME 45 minutes later: Hello, yes, I am the guy with two dead fish continuing to float in an acclimation drip line.

Operator: So they did not revive?

ME: NO

Operator: Are you sure?

ME: Are you kidding?

Operator: No

ME: No, apparently there are no miracles to be found here tonight

Operator: Ok we will refund you.

LOL!!!! that would be sooooo agravating.

I guess they, like IT desktop support technicians have to respond with the lowest common denominator in mind with questions like "ïs the computer plugged?"

You know...some of you have made me feel guilty....I am going to go dig them out of the garbage can and pull them out of the ziplock bag and try some of the suggestions above!!!

Going to ask the wife if she will do the mouth to mouth thing though.....

Man where do you get this stuff?
Sadly, it's all too easy. I read the other life saving techniques in this thread, immediately thought of the Heimlich Maneuver, and then simply Googled "Fish Heimlich". True to form, the nut jobs of this world happily provided several examples without prompting.

Tragedy almost struck today.....very very close call.

I have been working on trying to reduce vibration. I decided that I was going to put a large heavy duty rubber mat under the pumps...the same kind we have in our gym. So I closed all the valves and moved the 3 big pumps......BAM. I heard a pop and then a tremendous gush of water.... the ball valve on the 2" union blew out when closed!.... Heart beat goes racing as I try to figure out what to do with water flooding the equipment room floor....then I shot up stairs blowing by the shocked kids eating cereal, yanked the ladder out and got to the secondary ball valve I installed......closed it!

I try to put 2 valves on everything and low and beyond...without the second one....the gold tank would have been emptied in about 3 minutes.

Maybe some of you know this....and I do now...but after working with ball valves for YEARS...I learned something new...... SOME ball valves have a tiny arrow on them....this arrow tells you not the water flow but which direction the ball valve pop out....so you must make sure that the bv is installed correctly or pressure blows the ball right out of the slot..... of the 3 different BV I use...this type is the only one where both ends are not sealed to prevent this...and these are probably the most expensive of the 3....

I just changed the entire ball valve out to a closed one....but spent all day long repairing pipes and cleaning when I would rather be installing my new toys..... lesson 54,393 learned.

holy crap!, almost the exact same day my return line blew off last week..lol glad you got it under control without major damage.
