LUNATIC FRINGE-Duel 500g tanks, 1600g total

how did you make out with lighting for the tanks?

<takes deep breath> Well they took a while to get here from Germany...Then our friends at UPS crushed the ends... The lamps still work...had to file an insurance claim which is all kinds of fun....

I cant give a solid response to the question right now... I will say Yorgos at Imagine and Ocean has gone out of his way to make sure I am happy with them.... In a day where customer service SUCKS... (my new SKIMZ Skimmer is leaking badly and I cant get anyone to respond...same problems with BRS on an item I bought that doesn't work).... good customer service is very valuable to me.

I have only the 4 foot lamps over the tanks...the 3 footers are waiting till the cabinets are done which is still 6 weeks out. So for now, I cant give an true opinion other than to say that I like the fact there are no "white" LEDs...which is something we discussed.... Thanks for the convo by the way.

also....if anyone has a link or advice on taking solid pictures of tanks... please link a thread or give some advice PLEASE.... I have taken literally 100,000+ pictures, my uncle won a Pulitzer for his photography, I have had an SLR camera since I was 7....had a couple of pictures in magazines...and I have yet to take one decent shot of the tanks.... baffles me.

Who is going....im jacked about it.... and for anyone who is going to the Weston Diplomat....top notch hotel..... and I do 120 hotel room nights a year....

tanks are 96L x 40W x 30T

Openings are 23L x 29W there are 3.... they give great access overall.

Hard to tell the depth of 40W with pics but I love it.... it is nice to see fish swim at and away from you then just side to side...

Im in the process of setting up an in wall and will probably go with 72L x 42W x 36T

THose are great dimentions. You may want to make a PVC replica or tape the ground and play with aquascaping. I found that it is easier to scape a narrow tank....I re did the left tank 3 times as I couldnt seem to take advantage of the 3 dimentional opportutnities that the 40" gave me.

The 36" is going to be a bear to clean....really tough but it will look great. I went with 30 but raised the tank stand up about 10" so it feels higher than it is. Good luck.

Are you running a common sump or 2 individual systems

Separate:

IMHO: The advantage of doing one system was cost....it would save over $3500 The other advantage was larger more stable body of water....

Separate: I may give up the stability of the water size of a 1000 but I am not sure I give up that much as I think there is some type of dimensioning returns as you get bigger. However, in the event of of a major problem or crash....I have a back up so to speak. 3 recent events have convinced me I made a good choice...first reading about Jawsee's great tank crashing, then one of the best reef tanks I have ever seen, the one at coral corral crashed...(there is a legitimate conspiracy theory on this though) and then I had a massive bacterial bloom on the left tank that killed most everything in it....yet the other tank had no problems at all.

Not that it counts for anything, but I very much second your opinion on keeping multiple systems separate. The small amount of money you save trying to cram everything together quickly dissipates to nothing when a crash in one parts brings down all the other parts. Separate systems is definitely the way to go in my experience.

Mtce company - no contracts at the moment means no income means can't afford a tank. But just you wait! As soon as I win the lotto ...

Sitting here at MACNA and waiting for Chingchai Uekrungtham to speak in a couple of minutes..... very humble guy....brought his family I believe..... Tony Vargas has done a fantastic job with this conference.... Next year it is in Denver... I will post some other thoughts later.... met lots of Reef Central people here.....

I agree with the 2 separate systems. A guy near where I'm from who owns a store has his fowlr plumbed with his reef tank. And the 'messiness' of the fowlr screws up the stability you want for a reef tank. Beautiful build
