Lunchbucket's 48"x48"x20" Reef

I would want the sump on a shelf. Your basement will be cool regardless. The benefit of the sump elevated even a few inches allows siphoning out detritus easier.

Look what we have here!!!

Well went outside tonight and we have 12" in most places!! It has been crazy weather here. Started as ice pellets and then snowed like "H" "E" double hockey sticks!!

Good call that is a NICE benefit. Like that on my 58gal tank. I guess that stand has never been sealed more then what Oceanic did and it has done great for 3+yrs

that's what you get for putting out the patio furniture!

very cool dog.

 Very true. It's like washing your car...its guaranteed to rain then! Dang now you tell me!

We love our pup. Such a good girl that makes us laugh and smile all the time.

Eric,
Cute pics of your puppy playing in the snow.
We've got a 90lb Lab/Chow/Sheppard named Tyler who looks like Clifford the Big Red Dog, and a 70 lb Yellow Crack Monkey...uh..Labrador named Gracie. They LOVE the snow!!!

Personally, I'd be fine with it snowing 3 inchs worth on Dec 24th, and have it all melt off on Dec 26th. Snow is pretty, but REALLY annoying IMO. Keeps me from riding my motorcycle....

Do you guys regularly get snow this time of year?

Nick

maxxII - Dogs are a necessity IMO. They make you smile and have fun

It has been keeping me from riding my motorcycle too :( :( I'm supposed to take a trip to Nashville to visit my uncle.

We don't usually get snow this late in the spring. Usually it only comes down in the wet rain form :D It CAN happen (obviously :rolleye1: ) but it is not common.

dang you got a ton of snow up there, we saw a few flakes here and there but nothing to turn the ground white.

we were gonna go to SF for the electronic fair but heard it was snowing fairly good and now i am glad we didn't make it. lol

BTW great work on the tank and tank room. we really need a club tour when it is going :D

kau_cinta_ku - I think they closed the interstate from Brookings north for sure. We got a lot and north got a little more. Not sure what SF got though?

Thanks. People will be welcome but don't be surprised if there isn't an entrance fee to help fund the tank ;) The club is doing club tours still? Haven't heard boo from anyone around there lately :(

Lunchbucket

well haven't really done any tours lately due to we mainly already seen them all already. and mine isn't worth ppl to drive 1.5 hours to see lol. and well a fee hmmmm how about beer lol

I haven't been able to make the meeting for a while due to family ordeals latly so not really sure hows it's going yet.

For the open ends on the tubes of the stand a good fill of expanding foam w/ some paint over top should be good enough to keep the water and salt out right?

Lunchbucket

Now you freaking tell me. Hmm you know where you can buy those? Lowes? I could put a bead of silicone on them and push them in....pure genius!

Guess I need to find some of those..ideas

Another question. Since I'm going to use negative pressure to get fresh air into the tank room I'm assuming that I need to make the doors above the tank pretty much air tight. I tried putting some weather stripping behind them for a tight seal but the hinges won't close. So I'll need to shim the hinges off of the wall a little. What would be a good option for that that is completely hideable under the hinges but would work?

Also, what would be the best way to seal around where the tank will touch the wall. It isn't completely tight against there. We will be putting trim to hide any imperfections so may be some weather stipping behind the trim that we put up there?

Thanks
Lunchbucket

You can find the plastic square inserts in the hardware section (probably near the square tubing) at Home Depot.

Black rubber weatherstripping would hide the gap nicely, or some pretty trimwork.

The fishroom doesn't have to be sealed that tightly. Why not secure some felt behind the doors to avoid light bleed into the living space? Felt is cheap and easily replaced as it degrades.
