lure pods out of the chaeto before harvesting

Just curious if there is a way to lure the pods (amphipods mostly) out of the chaeto before I chuck large parts of it for harvesting. I hate to throw out chunks of chaeto without giving it a filtering for any large pods I can pick off and throw back into my sump. has anyone found a technique to lure them out of it? or should I even bother?

I look at is as another form of export. Grow em and remove them..

The pods will go right back to the numbers your tank can support in no time.....

I use chaeto and pod export as the complete nutrient removal system for my reef. I look at removing the pods as if I am removing the detritus and other waste material that they consumed.

They have a very rapid population doubling rate, so you really need not worry about the amount you lose in your chaeto harvest.

I put the harvested chaeto in the main tank for a day - everyone enjoys picking at it, the pods get eaten or go someplace else, but I can tell you that using a magnifying glass I cannot see any pods in chaeto within a few hours.

I shake the clump of chaeto in my display tank for a few minutes. This frees most of the pods from the algae.

mokeyz I like that technique, I actually pick through the chateo by hand after a shake it the tank,Very time consuming but I Found baby brittle's in it last week and yes I don't get out much

i know, on the occasion that I use a filter sock I try to rescue amphipods --- we are all a little wacky, no?
