Lyretail aggression

I've had a female lyretail anthias for about a year. I saw a nice male/female lyretail pair at the LFS last week and brought them home. The established female has been real aggressive with the male. They are about the same size. The female is pure orange - i.e. don't appear to be transitioning to male.

Any chance she'll mellow out?

Unlikely, now there is another female in the tank, your existing female is pushing to become a male. That will mean she needs to oust the interloping male. Unless the new male exerts his dominance and subdues the old female, I am afraid one of them will need to be moved on.
