Lyretail Anthia

Well after i got slammed on here over my copperband butterfly purchase, he died on day 7. Having died so fast however i doubt it was my husbandry that killed him so i guess thats...something. (first fish loss in 2.2 years not counting the ones who jumped to their death or the ones that died when i moved.).

At any rate i have decided to try another difficult fish (well in this case an intermediate fish)...i have an orange lyretail anthia which i beleive is a female. The had a redish one matched to this group of 3 orange ones so i believe that makes the redish one a male??). At any rate i didnt want the whole group in my 135 community and have read that they are best kept as a group or singly so i went with singly.

I am happy to report that this is NOT shy FISH. VERY MUCH at home in my 135 newbie reef. Wont touch flakes but eats pellets and goes after mysis like she is starving.

The tommi tang went after it hard right from the start but has not left any marks (oddly enough the tang is the one with marks) and i have not seen the tang go after it but once all day and ive been home all day watching pretty darn closely (working from the living room today).

I thought i would see if anyone browsing today has any experience with this and with this fish.

Oh and while im here posting anyway...my peppermint shrimp has attacked one of the heads of my torch coral, has not killed the head yet and i have moved the torch way up to the top of the tank where the peppermint does not like to hang out and increased my feedings but this has got me wondering if im not going to have to move that torch to my other tank for a while (which is a problem because i would also have to move my lights around again....)

Thanks guys!!

copperband is a hard fish to keep, did you get it eating ? if not then a more advanced aquarist could get it eating meanwhile or treat it if sick ... unless the fish is dead when you buy it, then ... :)

the anthia arent hard to get feeding, but they require feeding multiple times a day, make sure you follow that, at least 3 times a day.

Good luck.

Three days a week i can feed 3x a day (friday, saturday and sunday). The other 4 days its once a day with multipe types of foods.

Intermittently, i work from home (about 20% of the time) and can feed 3x a day 7 days a week during that time.

Good enough?

The copperband would eat intermittently, a few bites here and there. But with him having died so fast, i was told that short duration was most likely not due to poor husbandary (rather if he had died after a period of weeks and months). I am not disagreeing with you that a more advanced aquarist may have been able to do something more with it then i was able to however.

Male lyre tail can get quite aggressive. Mine is the king of the tank. Even my flame angel is afraid of him.

IT'S good to know, I hope she can hold her own against the tang and rabbit fish. I have seem no interaction between the anthra and the chromis or clown pair.

I have a trio of MAC cert lyertails in my 100g reef (1 male 2 females) The male likes to get into it around lights out time with my Male bartlett's anthia but overall is peaceful the rest of the day adn swims openly in the water comlumn. I have mine eating pellets along with rods food once a day. Also eats brown and green oceans nutrition nori off the clip.
