I have some Lyretail anthias coming in and am wondering what would be some good food to have around for them. I already have spirulina enriched brine and formula one flakes, what else would be good to add for these guys? thanks

they probably won't eat dry food just yet, try frozen stuff like PE mysis etc...if they do eat the dry ..thats a plus.....good luck with them.

Depending on their size the PE mysid might be too big...however an excellent food. I've always had good luck with Haikari's mysid (smaller size), brine, bloodworms and daphnia...all these are frozen. Cyclopeeze would also be a strong option as well. I would recommend a varied diet to see what works best.

I got 6 of these guys in a little over a week ago and all they are eating right now is Haikari mysis and frozen cyclopeeze. I have about 10 different dry foods (pellets and flakes) and they wont touch any of it!!!! :(

Mine we're eating flake food after 2 days. Are you geting them from LiveAquaria? If so hoepfully you will have the same luck as I did with feeding. I also feed a modified version of Eric Borneman's blender mush...they go absolutely CRAZY for this stuff. Good luck.

mmmm....blender mush. I'll have to look that one up.

Yes, they are coming from LiveAquaria. Our local folks do group orders to get the free shipping from time to time and they decided to do one this week, the Lyretails were on sale and in stock so I decided to take a shot with them. Love the look of anthias, just hope I can get them eating. They will be in QT to start, so hopefully can get them eating well by themselves in there.

That's the link to the mush...it's pretty simple. You don't need to use all, or limit, the ingredients. I freeze it in zip lock bags, laying flat...then just break off pieces and hold them in front of a power head.
Good call on q-tank, one of my Anthia's had pop-eye, but that cleared up in about 2 weeks.
One interesting habit of my lyretails is the affection they show to my 3 skunk cleaner shrimp...they are always going over to the cleaning station...cool to watch to say the least!

Thanks for the link.

Well, that's cool about the cleaner shrimp...they had them on sale too so I have one of them coming as well. :D

Have them in my QT now. They are gorgeous! Hope I get them eating ok. Interesting difference between how they're all acting right now. The male immediately went into the PVC pieces and has stayed there, moving from one piece to the other. The smallest female is sitting on the bottom out in the open, looking around, doesn't seem to be under major stress, just hanging out looking around. And the larger female is swimming around all over the place. Hopefully she'll entice the others to come out and play.

Ok, the two females are swimming around and seem to be quite content. They don't dart away when you go to look at them in the tank and they are eating cyclopeeze and enriched frozen brine so far, they have even nipped at a little flake I've offered them. However, the male seems to have an issue. He has been spending almost all of his time in the PVC pipe sections. He comes out briefly, pretty much just long enough to switch from one pipe to another, peeps his eyes out and looks around and watches what's going on. Hasn't made any noticeable effort to eat. Is there ever a point where you say I'm taking away your PVC and you're going to come out and play with the others? They have been in the tank a little over 24 hours. I know it can take them a little while to get brave and come out, but wanted to ask this ahead of time and wondering how long he can go without eating? I had really hoped that since the females are out swimming around freely, that he would go join them...hasn't been the case though. Any input?
