If I get 2 or 3 females will one eventually turn male or should I get one male from the start?

Im No expert, but one should turn, especially if there are 3 or more of them, that is what happened to my anthias, good luck

my understanding is that 3 will produce a supermale i have 3 but haven't had them long getting 2 more

What if I get just 2?I'm going back and forth between lyretails and bartlets.I want to just purchase 2.

They might just stay female, its hard to tell

yea anything can happen ...

but with 2, if one turns male, the only female wouldnt last long ... it would not be fun for her, or perhaps too fun for her lol

stay away from bartlets, they all turn male and go after each other, and other anthias if you decide to add later on.

just my personal limited experience.

Agree bartletts can be ticky, lyretails are much more peaceful, but also agree you need at least 2 females and preferably 3 or more to kind of spread the bullying around.
W/ a proper harem the keeping in check isn't very harsh, tank still looks quite peaceful.

Then get 2 pairs!
if you have 1 female she will probably be run ragged from the male, maybe die.
