Lyretail anthias???

I have a 75 gal reef that has been up for 1 1/2 years....I am wondering if I can get a pair of lyretail anthias..I love them...
anyone have any experience with these pretty fish???

I was told that a male would pick at a female if you had two and if you didn't have a huge tank...anyone else have a pair in a 75?

I have 2 bangai cardinals, a pygmy angel, a flame hawk, a royal gamma, a false pecula clown and HIS bubble tip.

I would get one male and three females.

My male virtually ignores my female....anthias pick on other anthias more often than not when they are sickly and weak, IME.

I couldn't disagree more when it comes to lyretails. My anthias showed hostility frequently amongst each during and after feeding and the females occasionally squabbled. the male also showed his dominance from time to time and faught with my midas blenny from time to time too. they coexisted relatively well but they certaintly didn't ignore each other and their heiarchy.

Your females are all large, as big as the male. And just at a glance, at least one of them has an elongated dorsal spine, a sure sign of beginning the change to male. This is often the problem with keeping groups of anthias, IME. We don't always notice the subtle physical clues that they do. There will be fighting and jockying in such a group because the pecking order is not established, and may be changing.

Have Two in a Community 56 Gallon Tank With Clown Fish and a Royal Gramma.They are a Good Chioce mine are Both Female and Are very Pretty Fish.

You could do it easily, just make sure you get a smaller female and a larger male.

I have a sub-male female and a true female in my 65. Once in a while after feeding the sub-male will chase the female for a whole 10 seconds. Other then that they are very peaceful. They are my favorite Anthias, they get along great with all my other fish as well.
Blue Hippo
2-barred rabbit fish
Tomato Clown
Bi-Color blenny
Yellow Watchman
and Twin Spot Wrasse.
I plan on adding another female when I get my new tank set up.

my male is always displaying his dominence over the 2 females in my tank but they usually do swim together. I can't wait to upgrade my tank to give them some more room.

So, say 5 females in one tank would cause one to change to male at some point, also would that be too many in a 125 with other various nano fish.

i think 5 could work in a 125 if skimming is up to par. And more than likely one dominent female out of the 5 would change male, but no garentees. They set up weird pecking orders that constantly can change

I have a male and then added 3 females. Two of them died or got killed. Now I have a male and female pair and they are doing great. The male is a bully but leaves the female alone most of the time. I have a 75 gal just like you. Other fish include a pair of clarkii and bluestripe clown, christmas wrasse and a royal gramma. Hope that helps.

3 is usually the best way to go so one will morph to a female. I haven't heard of many cases with 2 anthias and one morphing to a male.

i have 8 lyretial anthias in my 110 and they are spectacular

I had a quad 1 male and 3 females in my 90g. They got along pretty well.

I ordered 1m & 3f.
1 female was doa from live aquaria.
1yr later, all 3 are doing great.

I know that a 75 gal may be a bit small....but I have had good response that 3 would be ok in it...I think I will try the 3....we'll see. 1 male and 2 female. thanks for all the responses!
