Lysiosquillina maculata, Female

So my male to my pair died So disappointing...plus he look odd from all the Lysiosquillina maculata i have owned, too bad. So i went back on Diver's Den to get the 6" L. maculata where that oddly 'NO ONE?' here wants. I asked for a gender confirmation but pretty sure they have no idea how to find out. So they sent me pictures and its a female!! I already have two and i don't have anymore space for another Lysiosquillina maculata. So, not to waste the trouble of the bloke who took these pictures. Thought to share and get anyone here to get this pretty girl. As everyone knows i'm greedy. I would get her myself but she's too small for my project at the moment.

I didn't buy her, i posted it for some other to buy her here. I just posted this to establish it was a female and not a male. If she was 9 inches or more....she's MINE! LOL but no...and i wish i got frequent buyer miles from DD.

Do you have any idea as to how he might of taken a turn for worse ?

They're *really* trying to get rid of that L. maculata. The other day when I called about the peacock that didn't make it they tried quite hard to persuade me to get the zebra. I don't have a suitable tank set up for that particular species so it just wasn't happening.

It's really odd how NO ONE seems to want that L. maculata though. It's as if the market got flooded to the point of saturation. For a while L. maculata were popping up and being bought quite fast.

I would assume that the overall setup for L.mac's (or any Lysiosquillidae) would be vastly different to that of a smasher typical speaking of the DEEP sand bed along with most Lysiosquillidae attaining double the size of most other mantis shrimps on the market.

No wonder they took the time to take pictures of her for me...lol Typically they wouldn't unless you bought it. Thats how DD works. If you didn't buy it they will give you all the excuses but if you already bought it...there like sure, anything. Well i was the dork whom bought the last three of they're posting for the L. maculata. It is very odd that no one still seems to want this. After i went and found its a girl. Poor thing! Shrugs.

Putting the more needing to be creative on their set-up aside. I remember on these boards that there were soo many that wanted a 'female' but always got males provided they were available but now. No interest? I learned from keeping them you can control their growth by food intake as well.

These guys are so cool. Lysiosquillinas are a bit out of my league at the moment though. Perhaps someday.

Ahh thats tough ='[ although from what I have heard I was under the assumption that larger stomatopods hae the least trouble/more likely to surivive a molt (I may of read it back the front though) I also read about larger stomatopods requiring much longer periods of time after the molt to recover compared to a smaller species...

You can control many a critters growth rate with the amount of food and frequency you feed it =) I am doing this with a Goliath Bird Eating spider.

Perhaps because they have your records from the past transactions and thought they had a good shot of "getting rid of her" if they gave you what you wanted in terms of pics/info etc. (I know its happened to me before, as if there trying to MAKE you buy it...car salesmen....)

Not with LiveAquaria, they didn't care the first time when it was new on DD to get me pictures. They gave me excuses like, "Its been sold!" where i reply, "Why am i still looking at it?". To not even replying! They only did it, this time to just to get rid of her, that's it.

Btw, this little gal is still available if anyone is interested. I have a feeling they won't be getting in any more of this species for a while after this one not selling.

Oddly enough the Lysiosquillina maculata over at iBluewater has been sitting there for a while too. I'm not sure if that one is male or female though.

I have a feeling that the L.mac's aren't that 'sort after' just because there almost a single species tank animal....and a rather non-interative or all that colorful one either, do not kid yourself wrong I love L.mac's to death!! and all Lysiosquillades for that fact.

Size of animal + DEEP sand bed + Species tank = enthusiasts animal too me.

Considering the vast amount of more colorful and inter-active species available that can also be kept within smaller aquariums too.

Just my 2 cents...
