Hi Folks,

Lordhelmet and I wanted to know who wants to go to MACNA next year? It will be in Atlanta, Ga.

Maybe we could organize it...what you guys think? Who's in?

Check out the MACNAXX site, they have made it really easy to attend. I'll be there. :D

This year was really good, with some of the best speakers I have ever seen. There was only one glitch IMO, which was the Walt Smith promo for himself and for next years MACNA. Other than that, it was really great. I learned a lot about clubs. :D

Does MACNA ever come west of the Rockies?

Sorry, Dont know the answer. But from what I know, they change venue each year...I don't know how they select cities, maybe in a lottery fashion?

I think clubs put in bids for their cities. which i think we should talk to the BOD about looking into. esp since San Fran is a world class destination and stienhart will be completing there 220000 reef tank this year.

but as for MACNAXX in Atlanta. I am planning on it and am convincing the wife that it is a necessary evil in my life.

Necessary Evil!!!!! I hope you were not talking about Atlanta!!

San Francisco would be a good choice. I lived in Palo Alto for 8 years.

I've been wanting to go to MACNA and seriously considered it when it was in Texas but still the travel is outside of my budget - let alone aquiring all the good deals that present themselves at said events :D

If SF could host for the event I would so be there. ;) Thanks!

:D

I think they bid on hosting the conference two or three years ahead of time. I think it might be nice to do it in SF 2-4 years after the new Academy is up and running.

I dunno if SF would be a good choice honestly. While yes I would love it, and actually attend! :D I know that SF is an expensive place, this means expensive lodgings if you want anywhere near a convention center, getting around the city is not fun, doing stuff in the city is expensive, expensive cost to rent out the venues. Granted I don't know how this cost relates to other big cities (Atlanta) but here they don't mess around fee fee tax tax so everyone gets their buck.

You might want to check out how these things have been done in the past before getting all Negative Nancy. I am all for constructive criticism, but shoot from the hip with no information gets a little abrasive.
They are usually in a hotel with expo/ballrooms, so people generally don't leave the venue or the hotel at all. It also doesn't have to be in SF proper.

Don't get me wrong, hosting this event would be a huge undertaking, but it might be fun and worth it.

Ok maybe it's just me and the fact I've never been to one of these jobbers then, but if I go to some large city I've never been to, sure going to the venue is nice but I'd also maybe like to see the city as well.

And the people that want to do that do.

Hey HWG! Been awhile since I have been cruising the forums and ran across this thread. We definitely need to get together for a beer when you are at MACNA in Atlanta. It will be good to meet you in person. Hit me with a PM as we get closer and we can exchange contact info.
