Hi everyone,
This is for people who have been to previous MACNA conventions. This year's is in my hometown of Denver, and I also happen to be in the process of researching and saving to convert my 75g Cichlid tank into a reef tank. The end of August timing actually works out well for my saving goals. I went to Reef Stock in March and Fluid Designers was selling their gorgeous sumps for $100 off. I was brand new and not even considering SW at that time, so I didn't really notice any other deals that were going on. My plan was to bring some cash to MACNA, and hopefully get some things at a discount. Now i'm seeing that the sump company runs that deal at other times, as well, and I'm wondering if there will actually be other discounts at MACNA. Here is the equipment i'm hoping to get a discount on, I'd love to hear people's thoughts as to whether or not this stuff will actually be cheaper, or if I should start looking for and seeking out deals now, instead.
Kessil A360W Lights (2)
Protein Skimmer (either a RO or a Vertex, most likely)
Apex Controller
Hydor Wavemaker system (including a couple of powerheads)
Tunze Osmolator ATO
From other people's experiences, what are my odds of actually getting this stuff at a discount? If my odds aren't good, I might start keeping my eyes open for online sales and such. I know no one can say for certain, i'm just wondering what people's past experiences would say about my plan.
The MACNA rep i saw at a coral convention this weekend literally would not tell me the price of a single day convention ticket. She just repeatedly told me that i needed to buy the full, $140 convention pass because it would be sooooo awesome, no matter how many times i told her i couldn't/don't want to do all of the events. So if a day pass is like $75, then I'm thinking i might save that money and put it toward my setup.
Thanks!
