MACNA XIX - Sept 14 - 16 - Who's going?! (And what it is)

I'll be coming in from Colorado, vendors hold the frags for you, thats easy bringing them on the plane sucks. Ricordeas can be wrapped in wet newspaper but most sps will die with that method ( I know i just tried it) I'm gonna try to have vendors take the stuff back with them to their shop and ship it to me the following monday. it's an extra $40-$50 but worth it to have live coral when you get home.

MACNA is amazing, I never want to miss one.

I'll be there saturday and sunday. :)

Andrew, check your post count,12343.

Not why I came back though, I was wondering if one of you guys with god like powers could sticky one of these MACNA threads somewhere to make it a bit easier to keep track of. We've had a few running here and over in the psycho ward. Be nice to be able to keep up with this at a glance. Also may inform others not aware of it!!

1 more to go. :) Just click the report this post to a mod and ask them to pin it. I can't.

I can't wait to see all of you.

I have brought home corals on the plane as luggage. I packed it very well, and after TSA inspected it, I had my box placed in a rubbermaid tote bin (they use those for soft bags usually) to help avoid luggage bashing into my box. It arrived in perfect condition. Having a box with styrofoam insulation is ideal. You may be able to get one from one of the vendors (free or for a fee), but if you are worried you can always bring one with you. When I went to Boston, this is how I got my many frags home safely. When I went to Washington DC, I used a Seachem salt bucket to house my corals and didn't have to worry about possible leaks. And when I went to New York earlier this year, I brought home a few frags carefully packed in my suitcase. Some were in water, others with a damp papertowel. I still have all of them doing well, months later.

Vendors do sell corals throughout the conference, while others won't sell until Sunday. Those that sell earlier will keep your corals in the back section of the tank in the 'sold' section. You can just pick them up when it is time for you to leave.

Check-out for the hotel is always at noon, but each hotel I've stayed at has had a security room where I could put my luggage and new goodies until my flight leaves that evening.

Rich, I'll be looking for you at the conference and the bar. So be sure you have your namebadge with your username visible. It'll be nice to meet you finally. :)

Andrew - I made the request. It is up to the moderators if they want to pin it. At least for now, as we reply we keep bumping this thread and that keeps it pretty visible.

That was last weekend at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. It was called RAP - Reefapoolza I believe. No, I didn't go ... other plans got in the way!

Crap ..Sorry I meant next month. I will be there for 2 weeks and thought I could catch something while I was in town.

Thanks

Hey Marc! We'll be there!

Bought the tickets last October for the full three days.

We're leaving September 6th for a nice long road trip out east. Ended up planning our vacation around it. We'll be in Philly on the 14th but we'll be heading back across the state that morning to get to MACNA by that afternoon and for the rest of the weekend, before heading home.

Hope to see you there and maybe meet some of the other RC celebs out there too. Looks like it will be amazing.

Just FYI this was posted in another thread:

From Steven Pro:
I just wanted to let you all know that the Radisson is full. The overflow hotels are the Holiday Inn (412-372-1022 ext. 656) and the Hampton Inn (412-380-4000). Just tell them you are coming for MACNA.

If you haven't booked yet, better get on the ball!

id love to go but canada sucks and pittsburgs to far for me to go...
maybe next year when i'm even more of a loser and get deeper into this hobby i have been transformed to a reef freak....if some other people from here are going then maybe maybe maybe i'll swing down...

hopefully there'll be pics take from it...

I always take pictures and create pages about it on my site. I never did complete that task for the Houston MACNA, but I finally located the pictures on my external harddrive a few weeks ago, and hope to get those pages completed in the next week or so.

Agreee, great place to live. But from a "reefing" perspective, not that great. Still lots of dodgy LFS trying to sell you fish which they got from asian importers (mostly cyanid caught ). Also, we have 2 (yes TWO) kinds of zoa (ugly brown and an odd shade of green), compared to your unbelievable variety !!!!! very jealous! And we have to pay AU$125 (=US$100) for a cleaner shrimp! Go figure!
