macro algae poking through brain coral!

We got a favia coral a month or so ago, but it soon developed a 'plant' right in the middle of it. At one point we tried trimming it down, but it re-grew very quickly and was just as large a couple of days later. It really takes away from the beauty of the coral. Is there a way to get rid of this? I'll try to get a picture in the next while...

We've ripped the algae out again and I figure if it grows back, we'll keep doing this and maybe the coral will win out and close in on the space where it is growing. It literally looked like a plume of seaweed in the centre of the brain coral. No good.
