* sarcasm .
Really!?!?

Now that would be new for you, Dave.....

:D

Tony,

Dave's comment got me thinking.

Can you take the rock out of the water?

If you can: Rather than dry it out, try chisling the surface of the rock off. Remove the whole surface that the algae is growing on.

You could try Rainer's soldering iron technique as well.

Lets get medieval on this stuff :fun2: :blown:

Matt, you HAVE seen his tank right ?

Removing rock would be a bi t c h to do.

Tony, you could go to a welding supply store and get an UNDERWATER TORCH and then burn them off the rock.

Dave, what do you think about a virgate rabbitfish in my tank...maybe just for a while...sort of like a rental?

Underwater torch = virgate rabbitfish :D

That species has been reproted to be effective against Dictyota.

I would say the easiest approach at this point would be to try a sea hare or dwarf sea hare. If you ask, you might be able to get Cruella's at some point. If you don't want to wait, pick one up and I'll split the cost of him with you and when you're all set you can pass him my way.

Lill Hommie is chowing down. :)
Dictyota!?!?!?!?:D
That'd be nice...doubtful, but nice.

May check out Eddies for one....anyone know if Eddies has any and how much $?

No, I only had dictyota once, and it was in my first tank. It somehow died out on it's own, but no idea why. This is just a hair algae that my other herbivores won't touch.

Update:

No real update, actually.... :D.........

After picking...and picking...and picking... .....its still there and growing. But, it looks much better....just need to keep it controlled. Right now I'm thinking of adding a sea hare...see how that goes...then/and add the Virgate Rabbitfish.

Any opinions on how a 2"-3" rabbitfish will handle a confrontation with a 4.5" PB Tang? Was wondering if the rabbitfish would be able to fend off attackers with his poisonous spines.... ?!?

Was thinking of ordering here .

I have heard that the rabbit fish can hold their own. Yes they have some impressive spines when they flash them.

That said, while tangs have some pretty impressive weaponry of their own any fish is as likely to die from stress as it is from physical injury. The chasing can be as bad as the stabbing.

Good point Matt.

Lill hommie is really going to town. One thing no one mentioned- they are nocturnal foragers, and this one goes into the sand during the day. Easily clearing 3-4 inch patches a night now. Tony- if you want him next, I can probably bring him to the snail day on the 17th, else can make arrangements for you to come by after work one day.
who wants him after tony?

Yup...want him ASAP. Lets see if he likes Dictyota.

Will he survive alright in a BB tank with lots of rock...no sand to bury in. Also, should I worry about him making his way into the overflow or screen of a powerhead (sieo/closed loop)? Not sure how big he is.

Our tanks are identical in many ways- hasn't gone in the overflow, and no problems with the pumps. Will need to ask around about the sand. I don't think it'll be a problem, but no experience to be honest.

He is munching the algae that my rabbitfish won't touch, FWIW.
