Macroalgae in main tank

Has anybody added macroalgae to their tank in a container (like in-tank breeder). Does the tank benefit from the algae that way?

Thanks

Personally I have a seperate refugium, but plenty of people have macro growing in their tank as you describe. Cheato would be good for this purpose. It will help reduce Nitrates and phosphates with regular pruning and will provide a safe place for small crustaceans to grow and breed, and will provide a source of natural zooplankton for the rest of your tank inhabitants to snack on.

Cool. Do you think I would have to do something special to the container? Or just stick it in the tank with cheato?
