Macropharyngodon kuiteri

i dont think im going to QT these..i havent decided. its a tough call bc they are delicate and need an est. system. I am putting my faith in the wrasse gods with this one, but I wasnt going to QT. IDK as i write it i hear how obserd it sounds. maybe I will be rethinking my options. what would you guys do/ have done with leopards? I didnt QT my current leapord or tamarins and have had great success. I dont know well see.

Since they sleep in the sand, their chance of contracting ich is somewhat lower. They definitely need an established system. Now if your quarantine is established with sand, I would QT. Otherwise not.

thanks steve. thats what im going to do. right into the DT.

After this week and all the issues, I will never consider not QTing again. Im bummed that I put my kuiters in with the eightline but it only takes one fish to infect them all. So far they're doing OK though.

I know it might be wise to qt them, but with such difficult species it's a risk I guess I'm willing to run. I have though about it a ton.

The bigger problem is just aggression in your DT once you plop it in. I've found that if overly harrassed leopards will bury themselves and not come out - this has happened on two occations for me. The real reason why I started putting sand in my QT years ago was because of my Male Ornate which is in the 2M tank and my A. meleagrides. Without the sand, they would not have done well. Up to you, just be wary of angry neighbors in the DT.

awesome 2 females huh? a buddy of mine that works for an LFS just messaged me he got a male in. and i've been looking for one of these for awhile. so i might jump all over it. for some reason i can't keep potters leopards alive... but i have a meleagris that i've had for more than a year and a bipartus that i've had for a couple months now.

i might post here when i get mine so we can have a little kuiteri thread going.
any idea what your paying for them? pm me if you want.

hey guys, both females landed well but went right for the sand bed. hopefully I will have pictures tomorrw. all i can say is wow, what a beautiful fish.

Welp got my Male Kuiters wrasse today. Big fish, large. maybe 5" but a fatty. The LFS is about an hour away, so i was rushin home.
temp acclimated. then water acclimated.
put him in the tank, didn't hide, kinda checked the place out.

figured lets see if he'll eat. BAM ate frozen within 10 mins... awesome!

Congrats and good luck!

yes it is "wise" to QT the wrasse in order to protect the other fish in the DT ............but your odds are much better if they go directly into an established tank that somewhat looks like their surroundings in the ocean and that is your DT .it is in theory a bit risky but my percentages have gone up so much once i started to introduce them into my DT . you have to do a few things with your DT IMO . rearrange some of the rockwork to reduce Territorial aggressions . feed very well for the same purpose and they need many feedings per day to reduce the aggressions from the established tankmates .
