Made a bet with my wife today.

I think I am pretty much done with halides. Im about 90% leaning towards T5s and the other 10% of me still wants to research LED's. I think a 6 ft tank would be awesome but the 5 ft tank would be better in a lot of aspects. I could go with 60 in bulbs but I would probably end up wishing I didn't when the LFS most likely doesn't carry them. Any one feel free to chime in and share your experiences on lighting and help me decide. Even though the tank will be bigger I still think I can cut some energy cost here and there and come in below what I use now.

The tank is a nice insentive but the best part about quitting is how much better you will feel over all once u get over a month you start to breath better and feel much better more energy

I completely agree. There are about a hundred better reasons to quit smoking. My kids are first on the list and then my health and so on. I should have done it along time ago. The new tank has been over due and was gonna happen anyways, nice to find a better way to pay for it though. Its also something fun to focus on during the process. I cant wait to see how my body responds after 15 yrs of abuse.

I have a 110, 5' and have for over 20 years, 5' fits better. Just use a 48" fixture on it if you want because the 60" fixture is just a 48" with empty extention on ends. that new Geisman Infinity is a 48".

You are over the hump now, quit thinking about it so much and enjoy.

I know, I've moved on to the planning stage. :lmao:I will have to check out that Geisman.

Its going great. I drove all the way to Dallas with my familly and I'm still going strong. Bar BQ sunflower seeds are now my new addiction.

Best wishes to you Bro.. My Best friend did it, so I know you can... New Tank and better health... Can't beat that with a stick! You've got my support!

There are lots of 6' fixtures... most likely more than 5' and several t5 only... I know I have 4 of them of various brands. just have to buy the bulbs in bulk...LOL

I have about a pack and change until I'm out and I'm thinking of joining you on quitting as well... 25 years, and 3 heart surgerys should have been enough... but now I have to choose between smoking and the electric bill...

Anybody that knows me would tell you if I can do it anyone can
I was the anti quiter. If you pull the trigger, I wish you the best of luck. As far as the tank goes, I'm leaning twords a 5 ft tank with a 4ft fixture. I haven't ruled out LEDs yet though. Give up those cigarettes man, I don't know too many people who have made it through that many heart surgeries.

Back from Dallas and now smoke free for over a week. I made the first new tank purchase yesterday, I will post pics when it gets here.

Ok, it doesn't get here until Thursday but I couldn't wait. This is the first piece to the new tank. Vertex Alpha 300 cone.

Very, very, nice! I’ve heard so many good things about this skimmer, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. So have you made a decision on the lights? If you’re leaning towards T5’s take a look at the ATI, hand down best T5 light fixture.

99% sure it will be an ATI fixture. Just cant decide which one. Im trying to decide on a tank at the moment but my original ideas aren't really working as planned. Im sure me and Mike will figure something out though. I imagine this process is gonna happen kind of slowly do to money flow but hopefully it will be nice in the end.

I’ve seen several PAR readings on both the sunpower and powermodule, IMO for the money sunpower hands down. Same ballast, same reflector, a lot less money. I’ve also heard that they will be releasing a 8 bulb soon so I’d wait for that.

Im gonna try and order the tank next so I can start welding on the stand while Im deciding. I had my heart set on rimless but they dont want to build it because of the width of the tank. Im waiting to see how much it costs with thicker glass and trying to decide wether to go euro brace instead. Ive seen some really sexy euro braced tanks but I dont know.

Euro brace would be the best bet and maybe cheaper. Braced tank still appear rimless so I’d go that route. I’m really looking fwd to the build. Let me know if you need a hand with anything. I can also let you a hand w/ welding if need be.
