Made it to Wisconsin

For those that were at the last meeting - Skip your tank is great - I announced that I was moving from Connecticut to Wisconsin. Well, we drove straight thought and made it in 22 hours. Almost everything survived the move. I did loss our six-line wrasse, which I think was crushed between two pieces of liverock, and several members of the CUC. Also, several coral fragments were I will replenish them shortly.

The steps to the move were as follows:
-Filled a Rubbermaid container about 1/3 full of aquarium water
-Removed liverock and placed it in the rubbermaid
-added water as needed to keep the liverock submerged
-drained most of the water out of the aquarium
-netted the fish and inverts I could get from the aquarium and placed them in the rubbermaid
-removed rest of water from aquarium, until there was just enough water to cover the sand
-put aquarium in back of SUV
-put rubbermaid (with lid on) in back of SUV
-drove to Wisconsin
-once in new place, put powerhead in rubbermaid to circulate the water
-Mixed ASW and added it to the rubbermaid in 5 gallon increments
-pumped water from rubbermaid into aquarium
-once aquarium was half full added liverock to aquarium
-removed fish and inverts from the rubbermaid
-dumped remaining water from rubbermaid into aquarium
-finished making ASW in the morning after had a chance to sleep

The aquarium looks great and I want to thank everyone for the helpful advice about the move and the great discussions we had at the meeting.

Hope you enjoy the tank at the new place. And happy to hear that the move went "swimmingly"

Only thing I would have personally done different is a battery powered air pump in the rubbermaid for the drive. But then again, the sloshing probably added enough water.

I did NOT realize you were moving that soon. How in the WORLD did you drive 22h straight?!?

Did you guys swap out driving duties or something?

I'm glad that most of your stuff made it.

Put me down as another that didn't think you'd be going back that soon either haha

Sorry to see you go, but glad it went well for you.

Just curious, were there any corals in that mix? And if so, how did you deal with them? And how did they do?

I do have some corals, most of which made it. There were a few frags that I had epoxied to the liverock and they fell off during the trip. Two Pocci corals took a little damage to the ends after they were dislodged. The Pavona coral was also dislodged, and it separated from the plug it was on, but it looks fine and I have it on the liverock right now. The sun coral is survived just fine. The other LPS coral took a little damage from rubbing against another piece of liverock. The crocea clam is fine. The Kenya tree is not doing well, as it was squished against the container, several branches of the Kenya tree have detached and floated to other parts of the aqarium. red cap is fine. Zoas are fine.

Now that I listed all of the corals it does not sound very good for the aquaium, but the damage sustained was minor, no worse than a strong storm in the wild, and I expect a full recovery from all of the corals.

Made the same move a year and half ago. although I sold of the livestock and set back up. Depending on where you are I may be able to help you with some LFS.

Everything is still okay. I am in the middle of an algae bloom, but I expect it will go away as the nutrients are consumed back into the ecosystem. Thanks to the redesign of my liverock, I was able to zap a couple of pesky Aptasia that had alluded me for the past couple of years.
