Mag Drive pump question?

Does anyone use a magdrive pump as an inline instead of submersible? I just ordered a mag7 and i am trying to decide what will be the best way to plumb it. I have used them as submersible pumps before, but was wondering if running it in-line would cause any heat or lasting issues. I have heat issues with my tank because it is in an unairconditioned room, and i was thinking that i might save some heat problems by plumbing it in-line instead of placing it in my sump.

The manufacturer of Mag Pumps does not recommend running their pumps external.

That said, many of us do and have for a long time with no issues.

I would have no problem running external from my experiences.

I have used mag drives (7 & 9.5) for six years and never had a problem. Just be careful when you take them apart not to over tighten and alternate tightening screws. Do not go all the way in with each screw but just snug up and alternate until all are tight.

Thanks for the input everyone. I saw that the manufacturer said they could be used either way, but i have never used one external and wanted to make sure they were fit for it before trying. I have heat issues i am trying to work around, and this is my 3rd new pump in less than 6 months. From now on if it even resembles a RIO, it is junk in my world lol. None of the 3 pumps were rios, but all 3 looked just like one, so i am assuming they were all made by Rio and boxed with another name to disguise them.
