Mag pumps.... Ever have them run dry

I have a Mag 5 I ran dry for about an hour, luckily I had no damage to the pump.

I was just wondering how long these pumps can run dry before they may get damaged.

My danner pumps have ran dry for about a day or less once when I was gone but survived, also it says 1/2 hr in the manual before damage is done.

I had two Mag 7's that melted. Shame on me for buying the second one, but I was in a jam. I will never run a Mag pump externally again. Just my.02

I left for a vacation and my Skimmer powered by a mag3 went crazy and turned into a waterpump instead of a skimmer. I came home after a week of being gone to find the water level well below the mag 3 but it is still working fine and that has been about 6 months ago. HTH

Wow, about one week of running dry. Maybe mine will be alright after only a hour.

Not sure if it was a week but it was pretty warm by the time I got water back in the tank.
