Magenta Magnifica

Thanks everyone

That is an inverted glass vase, not a diner plate. It has thin, organic looking legs that make a space for fish to swim under the anemone. I found that a stone hill under the large anemones took up so much space, there wasn't as much room for the fish. Now the vase has totally encrusted with coraline and xenia and under the legs is the prime hang out for the regal and copperband. One of these days I'll switch over to something nicer encrusted on it, I'm just not sure what to go with that can handle the shade.

The skunks are breed out from the pair in the tank. They are getting a little big and do have a very active social hierarchy. I may remove some of them if the most dominant juvi gets any more aggressive with the male. The largest juvi is larger than the male now.

This tank is a 120 4x2x2. The 425 is a plastic water tank that is attached to the system to provide more water volume. There is also a 100g sump and a 6x2x1.5 135g refugium inline so it tops out at around 750 total gallons for just the 120 display :o At least I can tell everyone I'm stable (chemically, if not mentally)

The anemone is about 8" across. Not very big yet, but these buggers have an astounding growth rate if you feed them well. I prefer smaller ones because I think they are less likely to sustain damage in shipping and collection.

WOW that is A LOT of water for that tank! haha. Jeez I can't even imagine... Random question, but what do you think is the minimum total water volume to sustain a healthy mag?

Golly... that last picture in the first post, in particular, gives such a sense of depth to your tank that I thought we were looking at a tank much larger than a 120, which is why I thought it was in the 425 thing (I didn't realize that "closed" meant like a water tank - I thought you meant it was a separate system not off the main sump. :) )

Anyhow, fantastic setup. :)

They produce a ton of nitrates, so they need a really mature system that can handle it. they also can spawn at any time and turn the water to milk, so I would say 60 gallons with a good plan and a warning system for spawning would be bare minimum (ie- skimmer set to overflow with an alarm or controler to call you). I think stability is what helps get them through the first months of acclimation, so to me bigger is better.

alright excellent. Eventually I'm thinking about putting together a 75 gallon mag only tank. The size of the tank depends on what house I get of course

Here is a pic of the foot for id experience. The spots are very hard to see on this guy

The clown family approves! They laid a clutch of eggs under it yesterday.

This is the first clutch in almost a year and there is a large number of bad (white) eggs in it and a smaller patch than normal for this pair. If I do decide to raise them I will wait for the second or third clutch. This pair is historically very consistent, laying every 12-13 days once they like their home.

flighty, i got the one from foster and smith last night. can you describe your water flow, and tank parameters including temp? it looks just like yours and i want to try and do the best i can. i now keep 2 crispas at this time in my 180 with no problems, one was even bleached when i got it, and has colored up well. i just know the mags have special needs. also anyone with any thoughts on taking the cripas out? i dont have a seperate system and would have to take them to my lfs, and then if anything were to happen i probably couldnt get them back... thanks all.

Ah hah! So, you're the guy that stole my magnifica out from under me! :)
Shame on you! ;)
I hope it does well for you. Please share some pics when you can.
