Magnetic Holder for 1.25" acrylic

Roger,

I really want a holder for my 6100's. Can the bigger holder handle 1.25" acrlyic (1" tank with a 1/4" backing)? If not, can the smaller one be popped open and stronger magnets placed inside? Thanks.

Hi Paul,

That should hold for you. It will not be real tight, and there is a possibility you could lose them here or there, but most likely you will be just fine.

Can I pop open the smaller ones to replace the magnets? I just don't want to get the larger ones and then have a problem.

Honestly I do not know the answer to that. Roger should be back on the forum the beginning of next week so I would yield that question to him.
 
I have sort of the same needs (I have 1 inch) and will find a solution - I wonder if you put a little silicone on the outside magnet if it would stabilize - some things seem so obvious in life - one is for tunze stream owners they are always complaining about the mounts - they wiggle - it makes us nervous despite the fact that rails system works per tunze - and for us thicker tanks, which beg tunze systems why couldn't they contemplate this need - I rarely complain but gosh my rail is getting slanted despite how tight I make it on my new 1 inch spewing down at the sand making a large bare spot and its sweaking with the slight movement against the acrylic - if I tighten it any more - I may strip the threads. I am thinking of getting a couple of expensive algae magnets made for 1.5 inch and making my own mount - not only that - the single mount - why not make it a double so it is even more stable

Yeah my rails are always slanted because the streams are pointed 45 degrees towards the middle, and the 3" eurobracing I have doesn't help. Then with them pulsing they get this sliding/knocking thing going on.
 
The largest magnet will barely work on 1" and really should be used for 3/4" at most. For 1.25" you should use the brackets, bracket set 3000.26 is useful in this situation. This lets you make a bracket which goes under the brace and then down.
 
This is sort of on topic. My 6080.50 mounts hold my streams in such a way that they angle down slightly. Is this angle adjustable? I too am having a lot of sand movement which I think could be corrected if the direction of the pumps is raised just a bit. Thanks much.

Unfortunately this play was left intentionally so the pump doesn't get cemented in place by coraline growth. You can shim it up slightly with a small piece of plastic or by angling the magnet holder.

I will mention it and it is likely we will do something like this but I expect not this year.

Have they decided on making anything for 1" acrylic yet? My new tank has 1" acrylic and I want to run two of my 6100's at the bottom of the tank to keep it free from detritus and the other two up top.

I don't want to setup a CL for this. I'd just like to run my four 6100's. :)


Edit: How would a couple of stream rocks work for this application?
 
Stream rocks would definitely work. At the moment we are too far behind to take on any new projects, our cole focus is finishing up out current projects and increasing production capacity but this is something we will do someday.
 
if you are like me, you got the 1 inch partly for its look - maybe not OR James can answer this - would routing 1/4 of inch indent in the outside on the back making it thinner compromise strength - it would not on mine - like 2 inches larger area than the magnet takes up for flexibility of movement (maybe even a circle so you could rotate, etc - you had pm'd me and this possible solution just came to me. - God, I am a genius!

you guys are making this to complicated.

with most acrylic tanks you have a lip/euro bracing.All you need to do is, drill a 1/4 hole thru the bracing and get yourself some pvc or nylon bolts with nuts and washers.

They will slip thru the bracing and rite thru the top of the tunze's mount, then add threaded nut to secure them, you can aim them left to right now and not worry about them coming loose.
 
my tank is 1" thick, completely braceless / trimless

I wish there were magnets strong enough for 1" thick.

Can you use a router to grind a divet for the magnet? I may do this, but what a waste if you decide to go with some other application, or want to move it =(
