Magnets

Anyone have any extra magnets (like a Mag-Float...although the name brand is not necessary) lying around? I need two to put powerheads on; I am fed up with coming home from work to find a sandstorm b/c my suction cups gave out...

I thought I would check here before paying retail. LMK.

Thanks.

Jon

I would order the sure grip 50 or 100 to hold them up. If you want to wait, I am ordering mine up. I can see if it is well worth the extra money for it. 25-35 bucks a set plus shipping.

I have the sure grip magnets. i am very happy with them. The magnets are super strong. The only complaint about them would be that they do extend the power head a bit more outward than the suction cups since they are thicker. But all in all I am happy I got them.

HTH

Thats another thing I was worried about too, looks like I will have to move a few things around in my tank. But just imagine the PHs on a mag float... thats the same way.

i wouldnt mind ordering a set or two, where do you order them from? Do they work on maxi-jets?

Maybe we could get a group buy...I'm not sure if it would make a difference, but I would be interested in 2.

Anyone else?

I want to see how it works for me, might know someone that will/can organized a group buy.

Might be interested in another one as well if there are enough orders.

Oh yeah, Ryan I bought one to use with my Maxi-Jet. It should HOPEFULLY be here by tomorrow, I need it to redo my plumbing ASAP>

I just got my Sure Grip magnets today and they are pretty strong. IMO the magnets are not that thick either. The only thing I don't like is that I can not mount my powerhead side ways because it might slip out, so I guess some glue will hold in place. The magnets are designed to be used vertically and not horizonally which is another problem, not serious tho. When mounted vertically it is VERY STRONG, but horizonally is a little weaker. This is the Sure Grip 50, not the 100s.

I will take some pictures of it later.

That's strange that the magnet is weaker when placed horizontally...i never thought something like that would affect its strength.

Well remember since the magnet is "shorter" when mounted horizontally there is more weight pulling downwards from the power head. Since it is shorter then there is less "bracing" against the glass. In a vertical position there is more magnet running up and down the length of the glass so there is more weigth bearing support. This would give the magnet more strength capabilities. HTH.
Well on another note I just ordered two of those DIY maxi stream mods. And i am going to try and mount them to the sure grips.
I hope this works.
also let me know if you want mre to post a pic of the sure grip as it is in my tank now.

Oh for sure the sure grips will hold the MJs w/ mods. Thats not a question, use the 100s if you think you are going to mount them sideways.

Here are the pictures of it, I don't have it in use yet.

Notice they slide on, so basically they are ment to be used horizonally. I think some glue will help this problem. lol

A dab of some super glue gel would keep them in place and could easily be chipped away to remove the bracket.

Yeh I am waiting for the mod kits to come in, then I will see how I am going to mount them to the sure grips. I know the magnets are strong. i pinched my finger on them when I first got them. LOL

Count me in on 2

You would have to call the company to see if anyone does. It was hard for me to find any so I just ordered and bit the bullet on shipping. SO far so good, I like it.
