i saw the magnifica on LA and i was wondering if it was healthy? the one i have now was unhealthy from the start and i have found a home for it but i want to start with a healthy one. my tank is going well and i have a few sps, lps, and a single blk and white clown. all is doing well. thanks!

I purchased a very similar mag from DD a few months back. It acted healthy after acclimation, but like most soon went downhill.

LA responded with a very informative thread on their nems not too long ago. But frankly, I wish they would keep them 60-90 before sale.

the one i bought from a lfs was doing horrible the minute i put it in my tank and during acclimation. hopefully starting with a healthy one will give me a better chance.

yea i got it. i got an ozonizer and i got a fan to keep the water cooler because the temp has been rising to 82 with the MH on. i am going to get an ATO next week i think. i'm trying to keep everything as stable as possible to give it the best chance at surviving. i decided i'm just going to keep the mag. and a pair of clowns. and then the few pieces of coral i have in there. any other things i should look into getting? thanks!

but it will drop to 78 at night so i figured with the fan it will give it a more stable temp. maybe ill raise it to 80.

Out of curiosity what color was the mag that you got? I've been looking for one with pretty coloring for a long time.

i just got the mag. and it doesn't look to good. i'm sure it's from shipping. i started acclimating it and i noticed it had a green base and i ordered the purple base. i think they mixed them up because they had a green on there last night. i gave them a call and they said i need to send them pictures. i don't think i mind the green base. does anyone have any pics of a green mag?

its really sticky so thats a good sign. my clown won't leave it alone. i keep chasing it away but as soon as i move a few inches from it he goes back. could the clown stress it out or help it acclimate?

My rule of thumb is to keep the clown in unless it is going into the mouth or biting the tentacles off.

I got my magenta mag from a LFS who got it from a small supplier who transshipped some mags and sent the rest of them to Diver's Den.

k thanks. he attahced but his mouth is wide opened and has a little white stuff coming out. is this normal or is this a really bad sign?

Sounds normal, but a better indicator of health at this point is if the column looks "solid" or "saggy" . It is a pretty subjective thing and it takes seeing a few that made it and a few that didn't to get a good feel of what you are looking for. Can you post a pic?

yea i'll get some up in a few minutes. the base looks solid. it's not sagging. the tentacles seem to be inflating a little more but not much.

heres some pics.

when i was acclimating him.

sorry for the bad pics. i only have a phone to take them with.

I hate to sound pessimistic but I'd be willing to bet what is going to happen here. By tonight or tom. morning your mag will look great, and stay that way for about 4 days. It will then deflate and look like hell for a while, and then fool you and look great about 8 hours later. It will start doing that for another 10-20 days, and then one day it won't inflate at all. Soon thereafter it will start to deteriorate.

Been there. Won't do it again. I am very happy for those who have been able to keep these but imo this nem should stay in the ocean.

Too soon to tell for me. They usually look really bad as the foot is getting settled. The mouth being open that wide is troubling though, I hope you'll see that tighten up really soon.
