Majano?

I think that the coral at the bottom is a paly. Are the ones above it majanos? These came along with our most recent tank purchase and are spreading quickly.

+1 for majanos
If you have some blunt tweezers, you can try to pop them off the rock. They are much more substantial than aiptasia and shrink down to a still fairly sizable and tough barrel shape. Try gripping that with tweezers as close to the base as possible and work them off the rock. Even if that fails, I've not found them to be as aggressive in reproduction by pedal laceration as aiptasia, so you're not going to create 4 new pests by trying.

When I've had majanos previously as hitchhikers or as surprise volunteers, I've been able to remove them this way rather than having to resort to chemical means. I'm not aware of anything that eats them, either.

Thanks Mariner and Will,
This is a nightmare. They are spreading pretty quick. We will start plucking right away. What chemicals will kill them?

I had both aiptasia and majano. I tied the ol lemon juice with a syringe and needle and it worked pretty well. Worth a try!

I mix up pickling lime to the consistency of pancake batter and give them a squirt. Works pretty well. You will have to follow up with another application for the tough ones and the ones you missed in a couple of days.

Well, I would probably try injecting them with something like strong kalkwasser or lemon juice. They have a much more substantial 'body' to them, so its much easier to do with them than with aiptasia. Second choice would be kalk paste on their discs. Commercial stuff should work, too, but Joe's Juice is just strong kalkwasser and Aiptasia-X is expensive.
Unless you've got the time and are really handy (and confident in your skills), I wouldn't recommend the majano zapper. Paul B is an old pro at all of this stuff, but personally I'd leave this one to him. No doubt it works, though.

Thanks Mariner and Will,

better start pluckin......Ya know I put Rino in the 125g to combat my problems...so far so good, came home today to see almost all of both majano and aptasia gone from the tank :) and he hasn't bothered anything else "yet" and hopefully buy the weekend I'll be able to put him back in the 75...for those who don't know who Rino is.....he is my aptasia eating File Fish and has done a good job so far

Raccoon butterfly is another fish that loves to eat majano and aiptasia, but like the file fish, you need to keep an eye on it since it will eat corals if it runs out of its favorite snacks.

Aiptasia X

Aiptasia X

We invested in a small bottle of Aiptasia X and this stuff really works on both. Tried it on a couple of brown button polyps that were invading my coco's pinks and they were dead the next day. Be very careful not to let it land on a pally or zoa that you want to keep. Just a tiny drop is all you need.

Just our .02.

Jason -

Did you inject the button polyps or just put it on them? I've got some I'd love to get rid of. Might try it on some mushrooms, too.

Thanks,
Will

we did try aptasia x and it did help, just going to stay on top of it. We would love to get some kinda animal to take care of the problem, but most of the fish will start to eat coral and I can't deal with that. Do nudibranch eat majano?

After reading this I built one of PaulB's a mojano zapper. It was easy to build and extremely effective. It is also fun to use lol. It melts the mojanos almost instanly without any chemicals.
