Major In-250 Issues

Nothing to see Move along
I just brought up a 125 tank with a 75g sump. The IN-250 is in the sump.

I have this thing in at a depth of 7.25 - 7.5". I have the valve fully open but it still produces very wet bubbles that fill the collection cup in about 15 minutes.

It was working fine until I stocked my tank. I had it in my LR tank and it worked great.

I have no more room to raise it and the sump is baffled.

At this point I am ready to chuck it. It is turned off and my tank is running without a skimmer.

Any suggestions?????

Hi,

You have gotten something in your tank that is causing the skimmer to go crazy and overflow. This could be anything from a conditioner you may have put in, to just a really heavy hit bioload all of a sudden, such as a bunch of sloughing corals, or something else.

What has been put in the tank right before the skimmer started going crazy? Livestock? Any type of additives? Any epoxy to hold rock or corals down?

Thanks,
Jeremy

OK, so that explains a lot. I moved everything from my 55g to this system over the past 4 days.

Last night, I had to pull my 2 largest coral colonies out of my tank to epoxy them onto rocks. They really did not like that and put off a *lot* of slime. I also mounted several other zoo colonies. So I was doing a lot of coral work.

I also fed the fish for the first time in the new tank (not a lot, but thought I would add that).

So if I put a hose on the overflow and just let it skim like crazy (even though the skimmate is almost water) I should get through this?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

The epoxy you used is most likely the culprit here, especially if you used quite a bit of it. Give it some time and it will calm back down.

Thanks,
Jeremy

lol i epoxied everything down used whol stick of epoxy and it took over a week plus a water change to get it back down.

You can raise the skimmer a couple inches or put a JG ball valve on the air line to restrict the air flow, til it calms down.
