makeing waves?

In my experience they're more for show. I ran a wave in my tank for a little while and didn't get anywhere near as good polyp extension as I did with other flow patterns.

At one point I used 2 Modded MJ 1200's on a Chauvet Light timer to alternate the flow, and ran them on 4 minute intervals. The tank seemed to respond well to that.

You're not really going to be able to dial in a wave without some of the more expensive products which allow you to tune intensity as well as the length of each pulse.

The majority of the products are just for alternating currents.

tswifty im litstening tell me more. were can i find one of these and how much. becouse this little device is only 40 bucks.

this is what i had in mind to combind the out flow of each power head in to the scwd.

I think the timer is only like $30 or something. I got mine from a friend for $15 when I used it, then sold it when I tore down the 90g tank.

What you are thinking about doing, is basically a closed loop. Melev has a design on his site for using one on an non drilled tank.

I'm planning on using a SCWD once I get the chance to set up my finalized closed loop setup. If you get one before I do, let me know what you think of it...

I have one now and love it. If you research them people complain that they freeze up over time and stop working. The 1" version is capable of being opened and cleaned while the 3/4" version is not. I've had the smaller for 6 months no complaints. Your idea with 2 powerheads won't work. There will be too much pressure for the SCWD. I have to chime in finally with the others. This is the first and only time I will say this...leave your tank alone until things stable out. Right now you are the biggest enemy to your tank. You love football right? Think of it this way...you can have the best quarterback in the league but with an offensive line not covering the basics first you are doomed to lose. Just trying to help a fellow reefer because ive been there. Good luck.

im thinking about ordering it on friday so figure ill have it by wesday and setup completly by next sunday. i just need a little help doing the closed loop becouse i have no clue how to. would anyone want to help me assemble it

mitsuko, i dont plan on seting this up in tank for a good 3 to 4 weeks. thats give i can find someone that would be willing to help assemble this thing becouse i dont want to have it fail on me and i end up with 75 gallons on the liveing room floor.

I agree, but I couldn't put out that much so I made 2 of these.

i am going to be putting zoo med powersweeps in my tank. from what i read they are effective but you have to do a lot of maintenance. added benefits are you wouldn't have to worry about 75 gallons on the floor, they are inexpensive, and you still get random flow from them oscillating.

i used one in my 10 gallon nano . i will say this they are the bigest piece of crap i have ever used the gear on the inside constenly. froze up causing what i like to call seizures for the power head. they gunk up easly. all around they are crap. do me a favor and skip buying these

I agree. I had one over a year and a half ago. It worked fine for about 2 months then just started freezing up every other day. I was so frustrated taking it apart to fix it that the last time I took it out, my wife heard me swearing under my breathe and walking downstairs where I took a sledge hammer to it.

^^^ i did the same thing i preferd the old timberland boot . just dont buy this thing it sucks wast of your money if you want waves look on marinedepot. they have cheap wavemakers. trust me its worth not loseing your hair over a power head.

I mean you can get some use out of them for a short period of time. Till teh gears jam up. after that you can pop off the top, and gut the gears and just use it as a reaguler powerhead. that way you dont loose any money.
