Making a mated pair...

I've done some research (still need to get the Wilkenson book though), and I would like to consider breeding clownfish. Of course, I would need to start with a mated pair. I plan on getting 2 juvenile and hope that they turn into a mated pair.

My question is: How do you know it's a juvenile or if its matured?

if <1.5 inches most likely juvie
if ~ 2 inches probable male
if 3+ inches most likely female

this is a general guideline that works under most conditions

Well, I guess if I could walk into a local LFS and buy them, I would. That hasn't been my experience so far. I also have some criteria for this: b&w ocellaris, tank-raised, local (i.e., I will not do shipped fish).

B&W Occ are only commercial bred in UK and Australia to my knowledge. So your going to end up with shipped fish.

Actually there a 2 breeders in So. Cal. One of them does not currently have the b&w occellaris available, and the other I happened to call this morning and he had a few, but also had a pair that he wanted to sell - so I've purchased them. I will get them this weekend. They've been together for about 4 months... so hopefully they will be a mated pair, eventually.

So... problem solved :)

Thanks for your help...
