Making saltwater - general rule to get to 1.026?

Hi All -

Is there a general rule of thumb on how much salt per gallon it takes to get the salinity to 1.026?

Getting ready to make my first batch and wonder if it's x amount of salt per gallon.

A little more than 1/2 cup per gallon.

Or if you could weigh it, 35ppt = 35 grams of anhydrous salt mix per liter.

That looks good. Varies a little bit between mixes. For Instant Ocean I go with 2 1/3 cups per 5 gallon bucket. Check with a refractometer and tweak if needed.

In my mixing barrel it's 1 bag of RC + 6 cups to = 1.025

For what it's worth I bought water for many years instead of making my own. I was at the LFS all the time anyway and it was worth it to have a consistent blend and a lot less hassle. Nowadays though the LFS is ~30 miles away.

I use 150g of Instant Ocean per gallon of RODI and adjust as necessary after 6 hours of initial mixing. Pretty close every time.
