Male Bellus Angel

Well I recieved a nice male Bellus angel from Blue Zoo on Wednesday and have not seen him eat yet. He hid in my rockwork for the first couple of days and still spends the majority of the time in there but has started coming out more the last couple of days.

I have tried the following, PE Mysis, brine, formula 1 & 2, blue zoo pellet, new life spectrum pellets to name a few. BZ recommended trying live brine to start him eating but I do not have a local source for live brine. I got him very healthy and his belly is still very round and full. I thougt he would watch the female bellus and figure out it's dinner time but no luck yet. Any ideas out there, or will he just start eating when he is ready? I am just getting a little nervous playing the waiting game...:strange:

It has been my experience that male Genicanthus are somewhat problematical shippers. I have a pair of G. bellus and they eat voraciously. I feed all sorts of stuff, most of which you have tried above.

Snorvich,

I have heard that, my female (probably 2.5 inches) which I have had for about a year eats like a pig. This male is bigger about 5" and swims around and looks very healthy. I am just hoping he starts eating soon, or he will probably not make it.

Thanks,
Scott

The male bellus I got from blue zoo didn't eat for a couple of days. Is yours picking at the rocks? Have you tried feeding Nori?

Springmo,

Yes I believe he is picking at the rocks but he pretty much soon as he sees me he dives for the rockwork. I put in some nori green sheets on a clip tonight. Did your male Bellus eat Nori? He is one healthy looking fish just wish I could see him eat. He was chasing my female bellus around a little bit tonight so he must be feeling OK???

Pecking at the rocks is a good sign. My bellus does eat nori. He hid a lot at first but eventually got to be more outgoing. Here is a picture of him with my clown tang.

Looks like a carbon copy of mine. I have been waiting for a long time for this fish I sure hope he pulls through:hmm2:...

I was just showing mine off because I think they are beautiful fish. He actually lost a lot of that yellow color because he was separated from the female. I wonder if it will come back. Good luck getting yours to eat.

I am sure his color would come back if you introduced a female, which are a lot easier to come by especially on Blue Zoo. Thanks for your help!
